History of Energetikov Street

Energetikov Street in Izluchinsk is one of the oldest streets in the settlement, dating back to the early 1980s. Its history is inextricably linked to a large-scale Soviet energy project — the construction of the Nizhnevartovsk GRES power plant. In 1980, a decision was made to build the power station, and by 1983 the foundation of the first residential building for future power workers had been laid. The street was named in honor of those who built and operated the GRES — the builders and workers of the power station, for whom the entire settlement was founded.

For the first time in the history of Western Siberia's development, Izluchinsk was built "from scratch" — without temporary barracks or sheds, immediately as a fully developed residential area. This was an experimental approach to construction on permafrost, and it proved successful: today Izluchinsk is considered one of the most comfortable settlements in Yugra.

Nizhnevartovsk GRES and the Birth of the Settlement

All life in Izluchinsk revolves around the cooling towers and power units of the Nizhnevartovsk GRES. Decree No. 337 of the CPSU Central Committee and the USSR Council of Ministers dated April 24, 1980 marked the beginning of not just a power station, but an entire city. The designed capacity of the GRES was 4,800 MW — it was intended to be one of the largest thermal power stations in the country, running on associated petroleum gas.

Construction proceeded at a rapid pace. By 1987, the first power unit was commissioned, and by 1988 the settlement received its official name. On April 18, 1988, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR, the new settlement was named Izluchinsk. By that time, the first nine-story buildings had already been erected, and Building No. 5 on Energetikov Street became the first nine-story building in the settlement.

Izluchinsk Today

Today, Izluchinsk is the largest and most well-maintained settlement in the Nizhnevartovsk district. Its population is approximately 21,389 people, and it is one of the few small towns in Yugra that continues to develop and attract new residents. The settlement has won first place three times in the competition for "The Best-Maintained Settlement of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug — Yugra."

The city-forming enterprise — the Nizhnevartovsk GRES — still defines the rhythm of life for local residents. The power station supplies energy to the region's oil and gas fields and remains a key element of the energy infrastructure of the Ural Federal District.
