History of the Memorial Complex

The Memorial of Glory in Kushva is a place where history comes alive not only in stone but also in daily rituals of remembrance. Our live webcam allows you to see this significant corner of Sverdlovsk Oblast in real time, without leaving your home. The camera operates around the clock, providing free access to the broadcast from anywhere in the world. The decision to build the monument was made in 1971, and already on May 9, 1973, the complex was solemnly opened. The project was designed by architect V.P. Lebedin. The labor of local workers was used in creating the memorial — the slabs were cast by foundry workers of the Kushva plant — their contribution is forever immortalized in stone. The complex is dedicated to the memory of Kushva soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War. More than 1,000 Kushva residents did not return from the front; of those who went to the front — about 11,000 people — 2,352 were killed, 471 died of wounds and diseases, and 1,642 went missing.

Architecture and Monuments of the Complex

The Memorial of Glory is a large-scale complex that unites three logically interconnected memorial sites. It includes a tombstone with the Eternal Flame and a stele with the names of Kushva residents who did not return from the front. In 2007, on the initiative of members of the Kushva Charitable Foundation of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan and Local Conflicts, a monument was erected at the Memorial of Glory to perpetuate the memory of Kushva residents who participated in local wars. In 2015, a memorial sign in honor of Kushva residents who participated in the liquidation of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident was opened here. In 2013, the memorial was reconstructed, updating its appearance and infrastructure.

The Eternal Flame and Traditions of Remembrance

For many years, the Eternal Flame was lit only on memorial dates; after the 2013 reconstruction, the flame's operating mode was changed. At the opening of the complex, the torch was lit by Great Patriotic War veteran V.P. Solovyov, CPSU member N.G. Shumikhin, young communist Yury Molodtsov, and pioneer of Secondary School No. 6 Seryozha Makarov. The solemn laying of flowers is one of the main events of memorial days at the Memorial of Glory, uniting generations in a single impulse of gratitude and respect for the feat of the Soviet people.

Rectangular flowerbeds with red and white flowers are laid out around it, and the area is paved with gray stone tiles. In the background, military equipment is visible — an armored personnel carrier on a pedestal, a long memorial wall with the inscription "Fallen in Battles for the Motherland," the dates "1941–1945," red stars, and a bas-relief of a soldier's face.
