Verkhnyaya Tura is a small town in Sverdlovsk Oblast, located 8 kilometers north of Kushva. It is one of the historical centers of Ural metallurgy, whose fate is inextricably linked to factory production. Houses No. 1 and No. 2 on Mashinostroiteley Street are called "the gates of the avenue" — the street's arrow begins with them, setting the tone for the entire thoroughfare.

The architectural appearance of the avenue was formed over decades. Verkhnyaya Tura Machine-Building Plant

The Verkhnyaya Tura Plant (VTMZ) was founded in 1738. Initially, it was part of a single complex of Goroblagodatsky Plants, where Kushva pig iron was processed. It was one of the key enterprises of the Ural metallurgical industry in the 18th century.

In 1739–1741, the house of the manager of the Verkhnyaya Tura Plant was built — one of the oldest buildings in the city, which is now under the operational management of the City Center of Culture and Leisure. This house is a living witness to the era of the birth of Ural industry.

Today, VTMZ is the city-forming enterprise of Verkhnyaya Tura. The plant is part of the country's defense-industrial complex, which imposes certain peculiarities on its activities. The enterprise has a museum telling the history of the plant and the city, but due to its affiliation with the military-industrial complex, getting there is not easy — it is a closed production facility with a special access regime.

Geographical location and climate

Verkhnyaya Tura is located on the eastern slope of the Ural Mountains, within the basin of the Tura River. The city lies in a zone of moderately continental climate with a cold, long winter and a short, warm summer. Average January temperatures drop to minus 15–18 degrees, while in July they rise to plus 17–19 degrees.

The surroundings of the city are typical of the Middle Urals — coniferous and mixed forests, hilly terrain, numerous streams and small rivers. The nature around Verkhnyaya Tura retains its pristine character, despite centuries of industrial activity in the region.
