Kopeysk: A City with a Coal History
Kopeysk is one of the largest cities in Chelyabinsk Oblast, located just 24 kilometers from the regional center. This city owes its existence to coal deposits: the official founding date is considered to be 1907, when industrial exploitation of the Chelyabinsk coal basin began. A settlement grew up near the first "Yekaterininskaya" mine, which eventually evolved into a major industrial center.
Today, the population of Kopeysk is about 140,000 people, making it the fifth-largest city in the oblast. The area of the municipality is 35,739 hectares, a vast urban territory with developed infrastructure. Kopeysk is the only city in Chelyabinsk Oblast awarded the Order of the Red Banner for the heroism of its miners during the Civil War.
Kommunistichesky Prospekt: The City's Central Artery
Kommunistichesky Prospekt is one of the main thoroughfares of Kopeysk, crossing the central part of the city. Interestingly, this street was laid on the site of a former railway branch: the "Sergo-Ufaileyskaya" station with a 1911-built railway station was located here, which was demolished in the 1970s. Today, the prospekt is a modern transport artery with multi-story residential buildings, administrative buildings, and a developed street network.
It is on Kommunistichesky Prospekt that the building of the Federal Tax Service is located — a key institution for taxpayers of the Kopeysk urban district and several districts of the oblast. The webcam with a view of the Central Tax Office allows you to observe the life of this important urban hub in real time.
Tax Office: History and Significance
The building on Kommunistichesky Prospekt was for a long time occupied by the Interdistrict Inspectorate of the Federal Tax Service of Russia No. 10 for Chelyabinsk Oblast. Legal address: Kommunistichesky Prospekt, building 20. This institution served taxpayers of the Kopeysk urban district, as well as Yemanzhelinsky and other districts of the oblast. The inspectorate was registered on December 28, 2004, and operated for almost two decades before being reorganized in October 2023 through merger with another FNS structure.
Despite the reorganization, the building remains an important object of urban infrastructure. Life is always bustling in front of it: citizens come for consultations, submit documents, and clarify tax obligations. The online camera at the Central Tax Office captures this daily flow of people and cars.
Urban Environment Around the Tax Office
The territory around the tax office building is a typical example of Kopeysk's urban development. In front of the building is a spacious parking lot filled with visitors' cars. Along the perimeter are green zones with trees and shrubs that create shade in the warm season. Pedestrian paths are paved with tiles, with benches and trash cans installed along them.
Behind the building rise multi-story residential buildings made of red brick — a characteristic feature of Kopeysk architecture. These houses were built in different decades, from Stalin-era buildings to typical 1970s–1980s developments. Together they form a dense residential area whose residents know the way to the tax office well.
Transport Interchange and Pedestrian Infrastructure
An intersection passes in front of the tax office building — an important node in Kopeysk's transport network. This is where flows of cars, public transport, and pedestrians intersect. Traffic lights, road signs, and road markings are installed at the intersection. Pedestrian crossings are equipped for safe crossing of the roadway.
Nearby are public transport stop pavilions. Routes connecting different microdistricts of Kopeysk pass through this area, as well as buses heading to Chelyabinsk. Street lighting is represented by modern lampposts providing good visibility in the dark.
Kopeysk Today: A City of Contrasts
Watching the broadcast from the webcam at the Central Tax Office, one can get an idea of modern Kopeysk. It is a city where the industrial past coexists with modern life. Slag heaps are visible on the horizon — waste dumps reminiscent of the glory of Kopeysk miners. Nearby are new shopping centers, shops, and offices.
Kopeysk continues to develop: prospekts are being reconstructed, the housing stock is being updated, and new social facilities are being built. Kommunistichesky Prospekt, once a railway branch, is today a modern thoroughfare with heavy traffic. The real-time webcam captures these changes, allowing you to see the city as it is right now.
