History of Trudovoy Slavy Square
Trudovoy Slavy Square is the central public space of Kopeysk, which took shape in the mid-20th century as part of the city's master development plan. The square formed as the core of the urban environment, bringing together residential neighborhoods and administrative buildings around it. The square's name directly references the labor history of this mining city. On November 7, 1949, a monument-tribune to V.I. Lenin was unveiled here, dedicated to the labor achievements of Kopeysk miners. Since then, the square has remained a place where citizens pay tribute to the industrial past of the Southern Urals.
Monuments and Architectural Landmarks
The architectural ensemble of Trudovoy Slavy Square features several iconic structures. The main one is the monument to miners, shaft workers, and mine rescuers of Kopeysk. This is a white marble stele approximately 5 meters tall, ceremonially unveiled in 1997. The monument's author is sculptor V. Fitkovsky. The stele has become a symbol of remembrance for the thousands of miners who worked at Kopeysk's coal enterprises.
In 2007, on the occasion of Kopeysk's 100th anniversary, a large modern fountain appeared on the square. The rectangular basin with water jets became a favorite recreation spot for citizens during the warm season. Adjacent to the fountain is a children's playground with a sandbox, wooden play structures, a slide, and swings. Another contemporary art installation is the monumental inscription «I Love Kopeysk», which has become a popular photo backdrop for tourists and locals alike.
City Holidays and Events
Trudovoy Slavy Square is the main venue for mass city events in Kopeysk. On May 9, Victory Day, solemn rallies and festive concerts take place here. Kopeysk City Day is also celebrated on this square with performances by creative ensembles and fireworks. The permanent central stage allows concerts and ceremonies to be held without the need for temporary structures. On holidays, the square fills with thousands of citizens — families with children, young people, and older generations.
