Ola is the administrative center of the Olsky Urban Okrug in Magadan Oblast, located on the shore of Nagaev Bay of the Sea of Okhotsk. For a long time, the settlement's residents had no indoor swimming pool of their own, and the situation only changed in late 2020. On December 25, 2020, the Volna fitness and health complex — the first and only swimming pool in Ola — was officially opened. Construction History: How the Volna Sports Complex Came to Be

The construction of the pool was made possible through a federal program for the development of the Russian Far East. The facility was built with funds from the "Unified Subsidy" program under the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, aimed at developing economic growth centers in the Far East. The project documentation and construction financing were provided by Alexander Basansky, First Deputy Chairman of the Magadan Oblast Duma. He personally covered the design costs for the swimming pools of the Olsky and Khasynsky districts.

Architecture and Technical Equipment

The Volna fitness complex is a large building with a distinctive blue-and-red arched roof and panoramic glazing. The pool basin measures 25×8.5 meters and is designed for 3 lanes. The complex's VKontakte page features the hashtag "POOL ON THE ROOF | VOLNA under the sun," highlighting the unusual architectural solution. Sporting Significance for the Olsky District

The Volna pool has become a center for the development of water sports in the Olsky Urban Okrug. Swimmers train here, and programs in water polo, water skiing, modern pentathlon, triathlon, and diving are actively developing. It is the first and only swimming pool in the settlement, making it a unique facility along the entire Sea of Okhotsk coast within Magadan Oblast.

Arbat Pool in Palatka — Volna's Older Brother

A year before Volna opened, in November 2019, the Arbat pool was launched in the settlement of Palatka, Khasynsky Urban Okrug. Both facilities were built with funds from the same benefactor — Alexander Basansky. The Khasynsky District also has the MKU FOK Olimp sports complex and the Khasyn Sports School, but it is the Volna and Arbat pools that have become landmark projects for the entire region. The settlement of Ola sits on the western shore of Nagaev Bay, approximately 30 kilometers east of Magadan.
