Hiroshima Airport (HIJ) — Live Webcam in Real Time
Location and Transport Significance
Hiroshima Airport is located in Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, approximately 50 km east of central Hiroshima. It is the largest airport in the Chugoku and Shikoku region, serving both domestic and international flights. The Hiroshima Airport live webcam allows you to observe the operations of this important transport hub in real time.
The location in Mihara was chosen for a reason — the distance from dense urban development made it possible to build a full-fledged runway, which was unavailable at the old Hiroshima-Nishi Airport. Today, the airport connects the region with Tokyo, Seoul, and other major Asian cities.
Terminal Infrastructure
The airport has a single terminal, but its structure is thoughtfully designed. The building features three above-ground floors and one underground level, and inside it is divided into separate wings for domestic and international flights. This allows for efficient passenger flow separation and faster service.
The camera shows passenger aircraft docking at the terminal via jet bridges. The ground infrastructure includes waiting areas, restaurants, shops, and everything necessary for a comfortable stay for travelers.
Runway
The main runway at Hiroshima Airport is one of the most impressive in the region. Its specifications: length 3,000 meters, width 60 meters, designation 10/28. The runway orientation is approximately east to west, with an asphalt-concrete surface.
This length allows the airport to accommodate wide-body aircraft and ensures safe landing in all weather conditions. The webcam provides a clear view of the runway and its condition — useful information for pilots and aviation enthusiasts planning flights.
History
Hiroshima Airport was opened on October 29, 1993 as a replacement for the old Hiroshima-Nishi Airport. The old airport was located closer to the city center but had critical limitations — its runway length was only 2,500 meters.
The new runway became 700 meters longer — 3,000 meters versus 2,500. This made it possible to accommodate large airliners and open international routes. The construction in Mihara solved the noise problem for Hiroshima residents and gave the region a modern airport.
Transport Accessibility
You can get from the airport to central Hiroshima by bus — the direct route to Hiroshima Station takes 45–50 minutes. This is a convenient option for passengers who are not renting a car.
The airport is located near the Sanyo Expressway, but there is no direct exit from it. Motorists will need to use detour roads, which should be taken into account when planning a trip.
What the Camera Shows
The Hiroshima Airport webcam broadcasts a view of the terminal, apron, and runway. A passenger aircraft is parked at the terminal, connected via jet bridges — a typical scene for this airport. The airport terminal buildings, ground infrastructure, and runway are visible.
Mountain ranges are visible in the background — a characteristic feature of Hiroshima Prefecture's landscape. The sky is cloudy, giving an idea of the current weather conditions. The camera operates around the clock, allowing you to observe the airport's operations at any time of day.
