Düsseldorf Airport is an international airport located 7 km north of Düsseldorf city center, the fourth largest airport in Germany. The monorail runs at intervals of every 5–7 minutes, providing quick transfers between airport zones without the need to go outside. SkyTrain operates during daytime hours with 20-minute intervals during periods of reduced passenger traffic.

This system is one of the few automated monorail railways at European airports, serving as an intra-airport transfer. For passengers with connecting flights, it reduces the time between deplaning from one aircraft and boarding another.

Rail Connections: How to Get to the Airport

Düsseldorf Airport has two railway stations: Düsseldorf Flughafen Fernbahnhof for regional and high-speed ICE and IC trains, as well as Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal — the S11 city train located directly beneath Terminal C. The S11 ride from Düsseldorf's main railway station takes about 12 minutes, making the train the fastest way to reach the airport from the city center.

High-speed ICE trains connect the airport with Cologne, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and other major cities in the region. Regional RE express trains provide connections to cities in the Ruhr area. This transport accessibility makes the airport convenient not only for Düsseldorf residents but also for passengers from neighboring regions.

Bus Service and Car Access

The airport's bus network is served by routes 721, 729, 759, 760, 776, 896, SB51, connecting the terminals with various districts of Düsseldorf and suburbs. The SB51 express bus provides direct service to the city's central districts during peak hours.

For motorists, the airport is accessible via the A44 and A52 motorways. The parking infrastructure includes garages P3, P5, P7, and P8 in close proximity to the terminals, as well as long-term parking lots P23, P24, P25 for those leaving their vehicles during trips. Long-term parking rates start from €39 for 8 days.

Capacity and Airlines

In 2023, the airport served 19 million passengers, confirming its status as one of the country's key hubs. The airport offers around 160 destinations and is served by 60 airlines. The primary carrier is Eurowings, a Lufthansa Group low-cost airline operating flights throughout Europe. The airport also hosts flights from Turkish Airlines, British Airways, Air France, KLM, and other major carriers.
