Waterfall at Okhta Park — A Nature Escape Near St. Petersburg
The all-season resort "Okhta Park" in the village of Mistolovo, Vsevolozhsky District, Leningrad Oblast, is famous not only for its ski slopes but also for its thoughtful landscape design. One of the gems of this territory is the decorative waterfall, which blends seamlessly into the natural landscape. The online camera allows you to see this place in real time without leaving home.
Mistolovo is located just a few kilometers from St. Petersburg, surrounded by pine forests. This place has long been popular among city dwellers who value clean air and seclusion in nature. The waterfall at the resort is not a natural feature but the work of landscape designers who created an artificial ecosystem on the hotel grounds.
History of the Landscape Park
The transformation of "Okhta Park" into a full-fledged resort complex began in 2015, when a large-scale reconstruction of the territory was carried out. It was then that the company Vodalux took on the reconstruction of the water features — after their work, several ponds, streams, and fountains appeared on the grounds, including the very waterfall that falls into the camera's lens.
The landscaping project was implemented in 2017, when the landscape park took on its modern appearance. Today it is a full-fledged ecosystem covering an area of over 100 hectares, where every element — from boulders to paths — is carefully thought out.
Architecture and Landscape Design
The park's concept was developed by the architectural firm Wowhaus under the direction of Oleg Shapiro, an architect known for projects like Gorky Park in Moscow and the embankment along the Tula Kremlin. The main principle of the project is architecture that dissolves in the landscape, respect for nature, and Scandinavian minimalism.
This approach is felt in every detail: wooden pavilions do not contrast with the forest but become its continuation; paved paths wind between trees without disturbing their growth; street lamps are designed in a restrained style that does not attract undue attention. The waterfall in this context is not a dominant element but part of the overall composition, inviting contemplation.
Sculptures and Decorative Elements
One of the distinctive features of the area around the waterfall is the abundance of sculptures and topiary figures. On the green lawn, sculptures of elephants, bears, monkeys, giraffes, and rhinos have been installed, along with topiary figures from the "Bacho" factory. These elements give the park a fairy-tale atmosphere and make walks especially appealing for families with children.
Flower beds with yellow flowers, white ornamental shrubs, and large boulders complement the composition around the waterfall. Each season the decorations may change, but the animal sculptures remain permanent residents of this territory.
Nature and Vegetation Around the Waterfall
The resort is situated on the hills above the Okhta River in a picturesque pine forest. Coniferous trees — spruces and pines — form a natural backdrop for the decorative waterfall. The air here is filled with the scent of pine needles, which is especially noticeable on hot days when city streets are scorching in the sun.
Perennials and ornamental shrubs grow on the grounds, chosen to maintain their attractiveness at any time of year. The green lawn around the waterfall is well-maintained and serves as an ideal spot for picnics in the warm season.
Infrastructure for Recreation
Next to the waterfall is a wooden gazebo-pavilion — a cozy spot where you can shelter from the rain or simply sit in silence listening to the murmur of water. A paved path with a wooden fence leads to this secluded corner, and street lamps provide lighting in the evening.
The resort grounds also feature the forest clearing "V Chashche" — an atmospheric place to relax in nature with a cozy gazebo right by the pond. This is another popular spot for resort guests worth visiting after seeing the waterfall.
What You Can See on the Camera
The webcam broadcasts the landscaped grounds of the resort complex, offering a view of a small decorative waterfall. In the foreground is flowing water surrounded by decorative plants, shrubs, and large boulders. On the green lawn, there are flower beds with yellow flowers and elephant sculptures.
To the right of the waterfall is a paved path with a wooden fence leading to a wooden gazebo-pavilion. In the background rises a coniferous forest of spruces and pines, among which a wooden building can be seen. The grounds are enclosed with wooden and metal fencing, and street lamps are installed.
The camera operates in real time, allowing you to observe the life of the park at any time of day. You can see how the lighting changes throughout the day, how visitors stroll along the paths, and how water slowly flows over the stones of the decorative waterfall in Mistolovo.
