2 camerasHistory of Mistolovo Village: From the Ingrians to the Present Day
Mistolovo is a settlement in the Vsevolozhsky District of Leningrad Oblast, located approximately 10 kilometers from the border of Saint Petersburg. The first mentions of the settlement date back to the early 19th century: the village of Mistolova is marked on the 1810 map of the Saint Petersburg vicinity. Originally, these lands were inhabited by Ingrian Finns — the now-vanished indigenous people of the western part of the Karelian Isthmus. This Finno-Ugric ethnic group lived on these territories for centuries, engaged in farming and fishing, until they were assimilated or forced to leave their homeland as a result of the historical upheavals of the 20th century.
By the end of the 19th century, Mistolovo was a fairly large settlement. According to 1897 data, the village population was 619 people — 581 Protestants, 290 men, and 329 women. This demographic composition reflected the historical characteristics of the region, where the Ingrian population practiced Lutheranism. The predominance of Protestants among residents was typical of many villages in Ingria during that period.
Throughout the 20th century, Mistolovo remained a quiet village where life flowed measured and calm. The situation changed only in the late 1980s, when these places attracted the attention of skiing and outdoor enthusiasts from Saint Petersburg.
Okhta Park: Russia's First Private Ski Resort
The modern history of Mistolovo is inseparably linked with the all-season resort "Okhta Park." The resort was founded in 1993 as Russia's first private ski club. However, its history began even earlier: Dmitry and Darya Novikov created the country's first private ski school here, and the first enthusiasts appeared on these slopes in the late 1980s, assembling a makeshift lift. This was a truly innovative project for Russia of that era, when skiing was just beginning to gain popularity among the general population.
In 2015, Okhta Park underwent a major reconstruction, and in 2017 infrastructure development continued. Today, the resort offers not only ski slopes of varying difficulty but also many other activities for the whole family. Here you can snowboard, ride snowmobiles or tubing, and in summer enjoy hiking along scenic trails and cycling routes.
Alpaca Park and Forest of Wonders: Family Recreation in Mistolovo
On the territory of Okhta Park is located the "Simba" alpaca park — a petting zoo where you can interact with these amazing animals. This is a popular family activity, especially among residents of Saint Petersburg and the Vsevolozhsky District. Alpacas are domesticated animals of the camel family, native to the Andes. They are distinguished by their soft wool and friendly nature, making them ideal companions for children and adults.
Nearby is the "Forest of Wonders" — an amusement park in a picturesque area surrounded by fir trees at the foot of the hills. Holidays and events are held here, and the atmosphere resembles a real winter fairy tale regardless of the season. The park is equipped for birthdays, corporate events, and family celebrations. Surrounded by evergreen firs and pines, there is a sense of seclusion and tranquility despite the proximity to the metropolis.
Mistola Hills Residential Complex: Modern Development on the Hills
In recent years, Mistolovo has been actively developed. One of the most notable projects is the low-rise residential complex "Mistola Hills," built by the company "Severny Gorod" (RBI). The first houses were completed in 2015. The developer preserved the terrain relief, so the houses are scattered along the slopes of the hills, giving the area a unique appearance. The architecture is done in a modern style with elements of Scandinavian design, which harmonizes with the surrounding landscape.
However, the residential complex also has its problems. Residents complain about regular flooding, which forces them to organize "competitions for the speed of synchronous water scooping with buckets". This has become a peculiar local feature known to many Petersburgers. The flooding problem is related to the terrain characteristics and the high groundwater level in this area.
Lyudmila Kedrina Street and Other Landmarks
The central street of the village is named after Lyudmila Vladimirovna Kedrina (Khorenko) — wife of Soviet poet Dmitry Borisovich Kedrin, born on January 10, 1909, in Krivoy Rog into a peasant family. She passed away on July 17, 1987, leaving a memory not only in literature but also in the toponymy of the Vsevolozhsky District. Lyudmila Kedrina was not only the wife of a poet but also left her mark on the cultural life of Leningrad.
In addition to Okhta Park and residential complexes, Mistolovo has various infrastructure facilities, shops, and restaurants serving both local residents and tourists coming for recreation. The village continues to develop while maintaining its unique atmosphere — a combination of Ingrian historical heritage, Soviet past, and modern comfort.
