Nasha Trassa Ski Trail — A Volunteer Project Near St. Petersburg
In the village of Garbolovo, Vsevolozhsky District, Leningrad Oblast, there is a unique ski trail created and maintained by enthusiasts without any government support. The non-commercial project exists solely on charitable donations and the hands of volunteers. This online webcam shows the starting area of the trail — the place where the journey along snowy routes of varying difficulty begins. Garbolovo is located several dozen kilometers from St. Petersburg, and can be reached by train or car.
The Nasha Trassa trail is one of the most frequently visited ski trails among St. Petersburg skiers. Here, a track for classic skiing is always groomed, order is maintained at the starting area and along the routes. The online camera allows you to assess the current condition of the trail, see how busy the starting area is, and check the weather conditions on site.
History of the Trail in Garbolovo
It all started in 2008, when a group of like-minded people decided to create a ski and running trail in the vicinity of Garbolovo village. The idea is simple and noble — to create free sports infrastructure for residents and visitors of Leningrad Oblast. Since then, the trail has been constantly developing: new routes are laid out, the starting area is improved, and markings are installed.
Preparation, improvement, and expansion of the trail is carried out solely through charitable donations. No budget funding — only the contribution of people who ski here themselves and want the trail to remain accessible to everyone. Volunteers clear snow, groom the track, repair fences, and maintain order. Thanks to this project, Garbolovo has become the true ski capital of the St. Petersburg suburbs.
Terrain and Routes of Varying Difficulty
The trail is located on the Dudergof Heights — a group of glacial hills where the highest point reaches 176 meters (Orekhovaya Mountain). The terrain is quite challenging in places, making the routes interesting not only for beginners but also for experienced skiers. The total length of the trail is up to 12 km depending on the chosen route.
The trail features loops of three difficulty levels:
• "Family" — 2 km, a flat and safe route for children and beginners
• "Amateur" — 6 km, intermediate level with elevation changes
• "Master" — 7 km, a challenging route for trained athletes
There are also sections of 1.5 km, 3.5 km, 5 km, and 10 km that can be combined depending on the desired workout intensity. The trail operates daily from 10:00 to 20:00, entry is free and open. Equipment rental is not available on site — you need to bring your own skis.
Dudergof Heights — A Unique Natural Territory
Garbolovo is located within the natural monument "Dudergof Heights". This is a group of glacial hills included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Dudergof Heights are the only place in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast where broadleaf forest areas have been preserved. Here runs the "Dudergof Heights" eco-trail, which leads along two elevations — Voronya and Orekhovaya mountains.
There are many interesting places for tourists around Garbolovo. Nearby are Shuvalov Park, Pargolovo, and Lembolovo with the LMZ trail. And on the Dudergof Heights is located the Hospital of the Community of the Sisters of Mercy of St. George — a historical monument that attracts history enthusiasts.
Flora and Fauna Around the Trail
The natural complex of the Dudergof Heights is famous for its unique vegetation. Here grows a broadleaf forest called "taiga oak grove" — an unusual combination for northern latitudes. Relict plant species preserved from the pre-glacial period grow here. Many flora representatives are listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation.
The vertebrate fauna of the Dudergof Heights is modest but distinctive — featuring both typical taiga species and inhabitants of broadleaf forests. The ornithofauna includes over 50 bird species belonging to 7 orders. While skiing along the trail in Garbolovo, you can encounter tracks of hares, foxes, and sometimes the forest dwellers themselves.
Infrastructure of the Starting Area
The starting area of the Nasha Trassa trail is equipped for the convenience of skiers. There is a small booth building with an advertising banner, a mesh fence along the trail, and vertical feather flags of different colors that are visible from afar and serve as landmarks. The starting area is a gathering place before a run or walk, where you can change shoes, warm up, and choose your direction.
The trail in Garbolovo is a completely non-commercial project. This means there is no entrance fee, no equipment rental, no cafe, or staffed changing rooms. Everything relies on the enthusiasm of volunteers and donations from visitors. If you want to support the project, you can make a charitable contribution through crowdfunding platforms — every penny goes toward improving the trail.
