Shchorsa Street — history of the name and location

Shchorsa Street in Krasnoyarsk received its name during the Soviet era, like many other streets in the city. It is named after Nikolai Alexandrovich Shchors (1895–1919) — Red Army commander during the Civil War. The naming decision was made by the executive committee of the Krasnoyarsk City Council No. 193 dated April 17, 1951 in the Sibtyazhmash settlement. Since then, the street has become part of the residential area on the right bank of the city, retaining its name to this day.

Shchorsa Street is located in the Kirovsky District — the oldest administrative formation on the right bank of the Yenisei River. It was established on January 31, 1934 under the name Pravoberezhny. The district covers an area of about 35 sq. km and occupies the central part of the right bank of Krasnoyarsk — from Zatonskaya Street to the Neftebaza area along Krasny Rabochy Avenue.

The Kirovsky District is home to significant urban infrastructure facilities: the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold of SibFU, the Krasnoyarsk Youth Theater, the city archive, and the Church of the Nativity of Christ. In 1994, the tram network was reorganized due to the closure of traffic across the Kommunalny Bridge. Routes were shortened to Mostovaya Square, but Shchorsa Street retained its role in the city's tram infrastructure.
