Since 2016, design documentation has been under development for the construction of a bypass road around Kirzhach — a large-scale project spanning nearly 10.5 km with a cost of about 3.1 billion rubles. This bypass is intended to relieve the city center of transit traffic heading toward Kolychugino and further — to the toll road M12 Vostok, built in the 2020s near Kolychugino and significantly reducing travel time.

Kirzhach: A Town with a Seven-Century History

Kirzhach is one of the oldest towns in the Vladimir region. It was founded in 1339 — the first mention appears in the will of Moscow Prince Ivan Kalita. And in 1358, Sergius of Radonezh founded the Holy Annunciation Monastery on the banks of the Kirzhach River, which gave the settlement its name.

In the Russian Empire, Kirzhach was one of the textile centers — large manufactories producing fabrics operated here. The Kirzhach railway station is located on the Greater Ring of the Moscow Railway, which historically made the town an important transport hub.

The Stromynsky Tract runs through the Kirzhach district — an ancient overland route connecting Vladimir with Moscow since the 14th century. The Great Vladimir Road, as it is also called, was for centuries the main artery between two capitals, and today its legacy is carried on by regional highways, including the road to Kolychugino.

Kolychugino: A Town with an Industrial Character

Kolychugino was founded in 1871 by Moscow merchant Alexander Kolychugino near the village of Vasilyevskoye. The town's name speaks for itself — industry related to metal processing developed here. Today, Kolychugino is a town with a population of about 40,000 people, continuing to maintain its industrial specialization.

In the 2020s, the toll road M12 Vostok was built near Kolychugino, significantly reducing travel time to Moscow and other cities. This has made Kolychugino even more accessible for transit traffic, part of which passes through Kirzhach.

How to Get to Kolychugino from Kirzhach

The route between Kirzhach and Kolychugino runs along highway 17K-9. From the center of Kirzhach, you need to head onto Leningradskaya Street and follow it eastward — it smoothly transitions into the highway leading to Kolychugino. The road is two-lane, with road markings and signs.

An alternative route is through the villages of Yefremovo and Bushevo, but the main flow of traffic takes the direct highway. Public transport is represented by buses running on the Kirzhach — Kolychugino route with stops at intermediate settlements.

For those heading further — toward Moscow or Nizhny Novgorod — you can take the exit to the toll road M12 Vostok, which runs south of Kolychugino. This reduces travel time and helps avoid traffic jams on regional roads.

Road Condition and Repair Work

In parallel, design work is underway for the Kirzhach bypass road — a large-scale structure nearly 10.5 km long.
