Road to Pokrov from Kirzhach — online webcam on the highway
The road between Kirzhach and Pokrov — a route through Vladimir Oblast
Kirzhach and Pokrov are two cities in Vladimir Oblast, separated by approximately 38 kilometers of road (about 33 km in a straight line). The route follows the A-103 highway with access to the federal M-7 "Volga" highway, and takes an average of 38–40 minutes by car. This road is part of the historic Vladimir Tract, along which people traveled from Moscow to Vladimir and further east for centuries.
The webcam at the exit from Kirzhach is positioned so that the frame captures exactly the section where urban development gives way to the country highway. This is the intersection where drivers decide whether to turn towards Pokrov or stay in Kirzhach. The online broadcast allows you to assess the traffic load on this route and road conditions in real time.
Kirzhach — the starting point of the route
Kirzhach is a small town on the Kirzhach River, a left tributary of the Klyazma. The population is about 20,000 people. The city is known for several unique features. Here you will find Selivanova Mountain — a high slope offering a view of the river floodplain and the bell tower of the Holy Annunciation Monastery. On the same mountain stands the Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker, notable for its unusual ochre color, visible from the road.
Kirzhach is famous for Argunov carving — a unique woodcarving craft that adorns many houses in the historic center. The town has a Museum of Copper and Brass, dedicated to the local production of metal goods. For a long time, Kirzhach remained a town with only one traffic light — creating a special atmosphere of provincial tranquility.
Pokrov — the destination
The city of Pokrov is located 38 km from Kirzhach and 120 km east of Vladimir. It grew from a settlement at the Antoniev Hermitage (Pokrov Monastery), founded in the early 16th century on the Shitka River — a left tributary of the Klyazma. The surrounding area was historically known as the Argunov Volost.
The main architectural landmark of the city is the bell tower of the Pokrov Church, which is visible from afar on approach. The architecture resembles the Vysoko-Petrovsky Monastery in Moscow. The historic center has preserved old merchant buildings, the transit prison building of the Vladimir Tract, and the Museum of History and Chocolate.
The Vladimir Tract — a historic road
The Kirzhach — Pokrov road is part of the ancient Vladimir Tract — the main road from Moscow to Vladimir, along which trade caravans, royal envoys, and military units traveled. On this route, Pokrov was an important coaching inn station where horses were changed and travelers rested.
For many years, chains of convicts being sent to Siberian prisons passed along the Vladimir Tract. A special transit prison was built for them in Pokrov — the building has survived to this day. Thanks to its location on the busy tract, Pokrov developed as a trading center and has retained its merchant character.
What you can see along the way
Several interesting places are located between Kirzhach and Pokrov. In the village of Zarechye, there is a museum of hand weaving in the house of manufacturer Dumnov — a two-story estate made of brick and wood in dark red with white carved cornices and window frames.
A few kilometers from the village of Novoselovo, there is a memorial at the crash site of Yu.A. Gagarin and V.S. Seryugin — the MiG-15UTI crash occurred on March 27, 1968. On the approach to Kirzhach, the road passes by Alexander Park with a pond — a convenient place for a short stop.
Road infrastructure on the route
The highway between Kirzhach and Pokrov is a two-lane asphalt road with decent pavement. The section has been repaired, and road markings are in place. At the exit from Kirzhach, there are commercial buildings — trade pavilions, kiosks, and auto repair shops. This is exactly the section that falls within the online camera's view.
The pedestrian crossing (zebra) in the lower right part of the frame is a characteristic element of the city outskirts, where pedestrian traffic is still quite high. Power lines run along the sides, and trees grow along the road. In the cold season, the road surface shows signs of wear and patches — a typical picture for Vladimir Oblast.
