Intersection of General Karbysheva and 40 Years of Victory in Volzhsky — Online Webcam
Two Streets — One City Story
The intersection of General Karbysheva and 40 Years of Victory streets is not just a point on the map of Volzhsky. It is a place where traffic flows, historical memory, and the daily life of an entire microdistrict intertwine. General Karbysheva Street is one of the city's main arteries, stretching for over 10 km. It starts from Sverdlov Street and runs parallel to Lenin Avenue to the very outskirts of Volzhsky, connecting the "old" and "new" parts of the city.
The street was named on April 14, 1965 by decision of the city executive committee No. 6/198 — the renaming was timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Victory. Previously, this thoroughfare was called Zavodskaya (Factory Street). Its current name was given in honor of Dmitry Mikhailovich Karbyshev — Hero of the Soviet Union, lieutenant general of the engineering troops, born in 1880 in Omsk.
Karbyshev's connection to Volzhsky turned out to be no coincidence. In 1970, the crew of shift "D" of workshop 3 of the orgsynthesis plant enrolled the general in their ranks, and the earnings were contributed to the Soviet Peace Fund. Thus, the name of the legendary engineer became part of the city's landscape.
What Surrounds the Intersection
The intersection is located in the 27th microdistrict of Volzhsky — an area that was actively built up and continues to develop. Here, old private housing, multi-story residential complexes, and urban infrastructure facilities coexist.
One of the key landmarks is the Volzhsky Humanities Institute, located at 3a/1 General Karbysheva Street. The educational institution was established in April 1992, and the grand opening took place on September 1, 1994. The first director of the institute was Doctor of Economics Gennady Andreevich Babkov, who led it until 1997 — when the first graduation of students took place.
Near the intersection there are shops, public transport stops, and the ATS-10 building. Modern development is represented by the residential complexes "Gorizont" and "Atmosfera" — comfort-class buildings that are shaping the new look of this part of Volzhsky.
