The grand opening took place on June 25, 1953 — the park was a gift to the people of Volzhsky upon completion of the main work at the hydroelectric station.

The name "Gidrostroitel" was not chosen by chance: the park is dedicated to the labor feat of thousands of people who built the Volzhskaya Hydroelectric Power Station. Its alleys and fountains reflect the era of monumental Stalinist Empire style, yet the park avoided excessive pomp — it remained a truly cozy, human space. For decades, generations of Volzhsky residents have walked here, arranged dates at the rotunda, and newlyweds have taken photos against the backdrop of the fountains.

Rotonda — the Architectural Jewel of Volzhsky

The round white gazebo with columns and a dome is the park's calling card and perhaps the most photographed object in all of Volzhsky. The rotunda was built in 1956 according to a design by architect Averbakh A. It was conceived as an architectural landmark, completing the perspective of the main alley while simultaneously serving as a vantage point overlooking the cascade of fountains with decorative fish.

The classical style of the rotunda — its round shape, slender columns, and low dome — echoes the traditions of Russian estate architecture while maintaining the scale and solemnity characteristic of public buildings of the mid-20th century. The gazebo doesn't just decorate the park: it organizes the space around itself, creating a natural area for relaxation. On hot days, the fountains provide coolness here, and in the evening, the lighting transforms the rotunda into a real open-air stage.

The central composition of the park is built along the main axis, running from the entrance to the rotunda. The cascade of fountains, adorned with sculptural fish, creates a sense of movement even in windless weather. The water in the bowls sparkles in the sun, and the spray refreshes the air on the hottest summer days. Flower beds are laid out around the fountains, changing their palette depending on the season — from spring tulips to autumn chrysanthemums.

By order of the Committee for the State Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites of the Volgograd Region dated 06/08/2018 No. 99, the park was granted the status of an architectural and urban planning monument.

This status means that the historical appearance of the park is protected by the state. Protection zones for the site have been established in the historical part of Volzhsky, and any changes to the landscape or development within the protection zone must be approved by heritage protection authorities. For visitors, this guarantees that the park will retain its authentic appearance — the very same one envisioned by the architects half a century ago.

Interestingly, "Gidrostroitel" is the only park in Russia that has preserved its originally conceived and carefully maintained appearance in the style of regular classical park design. This makes it valuable not only for Volzhsky but for Russian landscape architecture as a whole.

In 1954, a summer cinema for 900–1000 spectators was built here according to a design by architect Y. Maltsev — in those years, it was one of the city's most modern cultural facilities. Today, the park features the Green Stage, the Main Stage, the Summer Theater venue, and a chess area.

For children, there is a small petting zoo, and the Ferris wheel — popularly called "Orbita," officially "Krugovoy Obzor" (Circular Overview) — offers a view of the park and its surroundings from above.
