Jalal-Abad City Hall in Kyrgyzstan — online webcam
Jalal-Abad — a city with history
Jalal-Abad is located in southern Kyrgyzstan, at the foot of Ayub-Tau mountain, at an altitude of 971 meters above sea level. This city with a population of about 120,000 is known not only as the administrative center of Jalal-Abad Region, but also as the country's oldest balneological resort. It is here, in the city center, that the City Hall building is located — the most important administrative facility, which can now be observed via webcam in real time.
Interestingly, Jalal-Abad was the first capital of Kyrgyzstan. The city was founded by the Russian administration as a counterbalance to the neighboring and more ancient settlement of Suzak. Almost until the early 20th century, trade was conducted mainly through Suzak, not through Jalal-Abad, but over time the situation changed, and Jalal-Abad became the main city of the region.
City Hall building: from the old building to the new complex
The old administration building fell into disrepair, which was confirmed by a corresponding report. The second floor of the old building housed the city kenesh and City Hall departments, and the conference hall met international standards and was equipped with an interpreter's room. However, over time, the building ceased to meet the needs of the growing city.
Construction of the new administrative complex began in August 2024 on the initiative of Chybek Tashiev. The project cost 1.65 billion soms. The new complex is being built on the site of a former correctional colony, and its area is 7.1 hectares. The building will house the City Hall, regional administration, and the presidential plenipotentiary representative office.
Architecture and scale of the new administrative complex
The new Jalal-Abad City Hall building is a large-scale project. It is a 7-story building consisting of five blocks. Inside, there is an international-standard conference hall with an interpreter's room, as well as a separate office for the president.
The new complex in Jalal-Abad is compared in scale and significance to the presidential residence "Yntymak Ordo" in Bishkek. Since the start of construction, residents have been actively monitoring the progress of work, and after the opening of the new building, citizens began actively taking photos against its backdrop. The City Hall is located at: Jalal-Abad Region, Zh. Bakyiev Street, 38.
What is located near the City Hall
Around the City Hall building are the most important urban infrastructure facilities. At the foot of Ayub-Tau mountain, on which the city is located, there is the city historical museum, organized in 1972. Next to it is the regional library with six branches in the city and a collection of 126,000 books and magazines.
In the suburbs of Jalal-Abad stretch the famous Arslanbob walnut forests — a unique natural site attracting tourists from all over the world. 200 kilometers from the city is the Sary-Chelek Biosphere Reserve with the lake of the same name. And 5 km from the city, on the western slope of the Ayub-Tau elevation, on the Kugart River, operates the balneological resort complex "Jalal-Abad".
Legends and tales of Jalal-Abad
Ayub-Tau mountain, at the foot of which the city and City Hall are located, is shrouded in legends. Ayub is, in the Muslim tradition, the biblical Job. According to legend, the Lord healed him of ulcers in the local hot springs, which still attract people from all over Central Asia.
There are other legends associated with the surroundings of Jalal-Abad. According to one of them, the Toktogul hydroelectric dam is located between two mountains where the lovers Abla and Tegerek lived. And in the Chandalaash Valley, according to legends, Kalmyks and Chinese found gold nuggets.
Jalal-Abad today
Modern Jalal-Abad is a dynamically developing city with a rich historical heritage. It remains an important transport hub in southern Kyrgyzstan and a center of tourism. The city historical museum at the foot of Ayub-Tau preserves artifacts telling about the centuries-old history of these places.
The children's library at the House of Creativity has a collection of 25,000 books and magazines, and the regional library with six branches serves readers throughout the region. Thanks to the online webcam, you can observe the life of the city in real time — from the busy traffic at the intersection near the City Hall to the calm atmosphere of the surrounding streets.
