Razzakov is the administrative center of the Leylek District in the far west of the Batken Region of Kyrgyzstan. If you want to see its heart, this webcam opens up a view of the central part of the city. This is a place where the history of the Soviet past and the realities of the modern southern province intersect. The online broadcast allows you to assess the scale and rhythm of life in this border settlement.
From Isfana to Razzakov: The History of Renaming
Historically, this settlement was Uzbek and was called Isfana. It became part of sovereign Kyrgyzstan after the division of the Turkestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and the formation of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region. In 2001, President Askar Akayev issued a decree granting Isfana city status. However, in 2022, the initiative of President Sadyr Japarov to rename the city received legal confirmation. The law was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on March 16, 2022 to perpetuate the memory of an outstanding statesman and political figure.
Iskhak Razzakov: The Man Immortalized in the Name
Who is this city named after? Iskhak Razzakovich Razzakov was born on October 25, 1910 in the village of Khorosan in the same Leylek District, into a miner's family. As the son of a simple worker, he made an impressive journey to become the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Kyrgyz SSR, holding this post from 1950 to 1961. Under him, the Kyrgyz Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR became the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR in 1954, and the main universities of the republic were opened, including the Kyrgyz State University and the Polytechnic Institute. He was a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU and a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
Geographical Location and Climate
Razzakov is located in the southern part of the Fergana Valley, in a region surrounded on three sides by Tajikistan. This determines its role as an important border center of the Batken Region. The hilly terrain visible in the background is a typical feature of western Batken. The climate here is continental, with hot summers and moderately cold winters, which allows for the cultivation of heat-loving crops on the surrounding plains.
Central Square and Architectural Appearance
The city's main square is the concentration of its symbols. Previously, as in many cities of Kyrgyzstan, there was a monument to Lenin here. Now, in its place, the monument to Iskhak Razzakov dominates. The square is decorated with a large "Razzakov" sign, which immediately explains the modern name of the settlement. Nearby is a building with rows of flagpoles, emphasizing the status of the district center. Tall trees grow along the roads, creating shady alleys along the busy streets.
Razzakov as the Gateway to the Leylek District
The city is often used as a base for travel. It is suitable for a stopover before trips around the Leylek District and exploring the historical heritage of the region. From here, it is easy to reach the archaeological and natural attractions of the Batken Region, as well as explore the numerous mountain passes and gorges.
