It was a grand project that transformed an ordinary riverbank into an architectural and park ensemble, which became an integral part of the Luzhniki Olympic Complex.

Luzhniki Olympic Complex: The Sporting Heart of Moscow

The main landmark visible from Luzhnetskaya Embankment is the legendary Luzhniki Olympic Complex. Its history began on December 23, 1954, when the USSR Council of Ministers decided to build a unified sports complex. Construction started in March 1955 and was declared a high-priority Komsomol project — volunteers from across the country flocked here.

In just 450 days, a grand stadium was built, which was ceremoniously opened on July 31, 1956. Today, the Luzhniki Olympic Complex is the largest sports and entertainment complex in Russia and Europe, with a total territory area of over 180 hectares. Throughout its history, more than 100,000 events have been held here, attended by over 360 million people.

On the complex grounds, you will find the Walk of Fame with handprints of famous athletes, an observation deck on the upper tier of the stadium with a panoramic view of Moscow, the Olympic rings composition at the main entrance, and the famous "Olympic Bear" mascot sculpture — the symbol of the 1980 Olympics.

Luzhnetsky Metro Bridge: A Unique Engineering Structure

In 1958, the two-tier Luzhnetsky Metro Bridge with the Vorobyovy Gory metro station was built above Luzhnetskaya Embankment. It is the only metro bridge in Moscow that simultaneously serves as both a transportation structure and an architectural landmark. It connects Luzhniki with the elevated terrain of Vorobyovy Gory, and its deck offers a stunning view of the Moskva River and the embankment.

How to Get to Luzhnetskaya Embankment

Luzhnetskaya Embankment is located in the Khamovniki district of the Central Administrative Okrug of Moscow. There are several ways to get here:

By metro: Vorobyovy Gory station (Sokolnicheskaya line) is located directly on the Luzhnetsky Metro Bridge. You can also walk from Sportivnaya or Luzhniki stations.
