Enthusiasts Highway in Moscow — Online Traffic Webcam
Enthusiasts Highway: A Road with History
This transport artery is one of the key elements of eastern Moscow's road network. Enthusiasts Highway holds the status of a first-class citywide arterial road and forms part of the North-Eastern Chord — a traffic-light-free highway connecting the capital's outlying districts. The webcam at the intersection with the Third Ring Road allows you to assess the congestion of this section in real time.
From the Vladimir Tract to the Chord
The history of this road dates back to the early 15th century, when the Vladimir Tract passed through here — the route from Moscow to Vladimir. Until 1919, the highway was called Gorky Highway, and was then renamed on the initiative of the People's Commissar for Education Anatoly Lunacharsky. The "enthusiasts" referred to revolutionaries who sacrificed their freedom for their ideals.
Today, this is no longer just a historic tract, but a modern six-lane highway with developed infrastructure. Beyond the Moscow Ring Road, the North-Eastern Chord transitions into the M12 Vostok federal highway Moscow — Kazan, underscoring the strategic importance of the highway in the country's transport system.
Integration into the Moscow High-Speed Diameter
Since 2022, Enthusiasts Highway has been part of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter (MHD) — a large-scale project that united the North-Eastern and North-Western Chords. This has ensured traffic-light-free movement between the north, east, and southeast of Moscow. The NE Chord spans 43 kilometers, and Enthusiasts Highway serves as a key connecting link within it.
The highway also marks the beginning of the Fourth Transport Ring — the only completed section of the 4TR runs from Enthusiasts Highway to Izmailovskoye Highway, opened in 2011.
Reconstruction: Overpasses and New Ramps
Historically, Enthusiasts Highway has been among the most congested roads in Moscow. The large-scale reconstruction in recent years aims to eliminate chronic traffic jams. In 2024–2026, a new overpass is being built at the intersection with Svobody Prospect (near the Moscow Ring Road) with a capacity of 80,000 vehicles per day.
The lane width on the main section is 3.5–3.75 meters, with a total of up to 10 lanes (3–5 in each direction). After the reconstruction of interchanges, the capacity of individual sections has increased by 20–30%, noticeably reducing the load on adjacent streets.
Tram Future for Eastern Districts
Tram tracks run along the highway, and in 2026 the construction of Russia's longest catenary-free tram line will be completed here. The approximately 4-kilometer route will connect Stalevarov Street with 3rd Vladimirskaya Street in the Ivanovskoye district. Five new stops will provide transfers to suburban buses and electric buses, improving transport accessibility for 130,000 residents of the eastern districts.
The project completion deadline is Q4 2026, with construction ahead of schedule. This is part of the surface public transport development program aimed at relieving the metro during peak hours.
Metro and Surface Transport
Four metro stations run parallel to the highway: Shosse Entuziastov (Kalinin-Solntsevo Line, opened in 1979), Novogireyevo, Perovo, and Aviamotornaya. Along the highway lie the districts of Sokolinaya Gora, Novogireyevo, Ivanovskoye, and Izmailovo — densely built up with residential complexes and business centers.
Regular bus service operates on the highway, and the intersection with the Third Ring Road is an important junction for drivers heading to the city center or leaving the city. Road signs, median barriers, and street lighting ensure traffic safety at any time of day.
What the Camera Shows
The camera at the intersection with the Third Ring Road provides a view of a multi-lane urban highway with active traffic. The frame shows cars, trucks, and electric buses moving in both directions. Along the road, tram tracks, road signs, and advertising billboards are visible.
On the left are modern high-rise office and residential buildings with glass facades; on the right is a construction site with a tower crane. In the background, dense urban development with tall buildings is visible. The webcam allows you to assess the current road situation and plan your route taking into account the congestion of this section of the North-Eastern Chord.
