Northern Bypass of Odintsovo: a new-generation toll road
The Northern Bypass of Odintsovo is a federal toll highway that became one of the key infrastructure projects in the Moscow region. The Category IБ road with a design speed of 120 km/h connects the western directions of the region with Moscow, relieving the traditionally congested Minsk Highway. The highway length is approximately 18.5–20 km, and the number of traffic lanes varies from 4 to 8 on different sections.
The road passes through the territory of Odintsovsky District, bypassing the city of Odintsovo from the northeast and west sides. This is a strategic direction for traffic flows heading to the capital and back, as well as for international transport toward Belarus.
Toll Point 6.9 km: a record-breaking toll plaza
The toll point at the 6.9 km mark is one of four toll plazas on the Northern Bypass of Odintsovo. It was here that a capacity record was set: 3,810 vehicles per hour. This figure demonstrates the high traffic intensity on the approach to Moscow and the importance of this section for the region's transport network.
The design capacity of the entire highway is up to 100,000 vehicles per day. Toll Point 6.9 km is located on one of the busiest sections, making video surveillance here especially valuable for drivers planning their routes.
Route from MKAD to Minsk Highway
The Northern Bypass of Odintsovo starts from the Molodogvardeyskaya interchange at 56 km MKAD in Moscow's Kuntsevo District and ends at the 33 km mark of the Minsk Highway M1. Thus, the highway provides a seamless connection between the capital's ring road and the federal highway heading west.
For international carriers and tourists, this is an alternative route to the M1 "Belarus" highway, which is part of the European route E30. Before the opening of the Northern Bypass, the M1 section near Odintsovo was one of the most problematic in terms of congestion.
Highway infrastructure: bridges, interchanges, technologies
The Northern Bypass of Odintsovo is a modern highway with developed engineering infrastructure. Along the highway there are 14 bridges and overpasses, as well as 6 grade-separated interchanges. Opposing traffic flows are completely separated, ensuring safety and high travel speeds.
The road operator is JSC "Novoye Kachestvo Dorog" (New Road Quality), which manages the concession agreement signed back in the summer of 2009 between the Ministry of Transport and the investor. The official opening of the highway took place on January 1, 2014.

Tariffs and payment system

The "free-flow" system is available to users — vehicles pass through the toll plaza at speed without stopping, and payment is automatically deducted via transponders or by license plate photo recognition.
Transport significance for Moscow and the region
The Northern Bypass of Odintsovo solves several important tasks for the transport system of the capital region. First, it relieves the Minsk Highway, which has historically been one of the most congested in the Moscow region. Second, the highway improves transport accessibility of Odintsovsky District, where a significant number of Moscow residents live.
For Kuntsevo District and the western districts of Moscow, the Northern Bypass has become a convenient exit to suburban destinations without having to drive through the center of Odintsovo. This reduces travel time and decreases the load on city streets.
