1 camerasHistory of Vsevolozhsk and the first settlements on the banks of the Neva
The areas on the territory of modern Vsevolozhsk have been inhabited since ancient times. The first written mentions of Karelian-Finnish settlements date back to the 16th century. The history of the city is inextricably linked with the nature and rivers on whose banks settlements were formed.
At the end of the 18th century, the Ryabovo estate stood here, owned by Baron Ivan Fricks. Later, the estate was acquired by the wealthy landowner Vsevolod Vsevolozhsky, who gave the name to the railway station that became the starting point for the future city.
How the city appeared on the map of Russia
The official founding date of Vsevolozhsk is 1892, when the Ryabovo station was built on the land of Vsevolod Vsevolozhsky, and a dacha settlement began to form around it.
The railway station became a center of attraction for vacationers from St. Petersburg. Vsevolozhsk developed rapidly, transforming from a settlement into a full-fledged populated place. The city was named after its first owner, who allowed the station to be named after him.
Dachas in the vicinity of modern Vsevolozhsk began to be built as early as the times of Peter the Great, and the first to settle here was Alexander Menshikov.
Nature and parks of the region
Vsevolozhsk and its surroundings are rich in forests and rivers. The city covers an area of 19,097 hectares and is one of the greenest and most ecologically clean municipalities in the Leningrad region.
Walking through Okkervil Park, you can see river forks and walking paths. The park is located in the Kudrovo area and includes bridges, a temple, and extensive green zones. The river was named after Swedish Colonel Okkervil, whose estates stretched across these lands even before the founding of St. Petersburg.
All this makes the city attractive for those seeking to escape urban bustle into the natural areas of the Leningrad region.
Historical places and estates
In the vicinity of Vsevolozhsk, estates connected with Russian history have been preserved. Ilyinskoye was for a long time the residence of Alexander II and the royal family, however, the historical and cultural significance of the estate has not yet received an objective assessment.
The Ilyinskoye estate is a lost cultural monument; the dismantling of the buildings was carried out without the participation of architects and heritage protection authorities. Alexander II was offered the Tsaritsyno estate with a park in exchange for Ilyinskoye, but the tsar refused.
Next to the Ryabovo estate is the Rumbolovsky Park, which began to be laid out as early as the 18th century. The park has been preserved as an example of landscape design of old estates.
Road of Life and historical memory
The memory of the Road of Life, which connected besieged Leningrad with the mainland, is immortalized in the "Flower of Life" memorial complex in the Vsevolozhsk district. A white stone flower on a 10-meter stem stands on the high bank of the Lubya River.
On September 8, 1941, German troops reached the shore of Lake Ladoga and finally blockaded Leningrad. The Road of Life became the city's only connection with the mainland.
Unique attractions
Vsevolozhsk is known not only for its history and nature but also for unique cultural sites. The city boasts an unusual cat museum with a rich exhibition dedicated to the domestication of this animal and its influence on art.
