Varskie Village: History and Modernity

Lost in the Ryazan district, twelve kilometers from the regional center, the village of Varskie preserves the memory of four centuries of its history. This is one of the oldest settlements of the Ryazan region, founded about 400 years ago. Previously it was called Knyazhsky pochenok, then Varskaya — and these names first appear in the Census Books of the Ryazan region of the 16th–17th centuries. Today Varskie is a quiet corner where the past intertwines with the present, and you can observe the life of the village through webcams in real time.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Varskie estate of Major General B. M. Petrovo-Solovovo was located here. This estate belonged to the Shumoshskaya volost of the Ryazan uyezd and was known for its timber industry — harvesting and selling timber was one of the main specializations of the estate. In September 1917, the estate was destroyed by peasants from the village of Polyany, and in the 1920s, the kolkhoz "Borba" was organized on the lands of the former lord's estate. Thus one era ended and another began.

Ryazan College named after N.N. Komarov

One of the main attractions of Varskie is rightfully considered the Ryazan College named after Hero of the Soviet Union N.N. Komarov. This educational institution is one of the oldest agricultural colleges in the Ryazan region. Its history began in October 1919, when the 2nd Soviet Nadezhdinskaya Agricultural School of Cheesemaking and Butter Making moved to Varskie. And in October 1936, the veterinary technical school was transferred here from Ryazan.

In 2023, the college celebrated its centenary. Over the years, it has trained thousands of specialists for agriculture, EMERCOM structures and other sectors of the regional economy. The college campus is a whole world where generations of students gain knowledge and professions. And if you want to see what the territory of the educational institution looks like today, you can find Varskie webcams showing the surroundings of the college.

Ecopark Polyany: Natural Complex near Ryazan

The real gem of the village became Ecopark Polyany, located on a territory of more than 500 hectares. It is located in close proximity to the Meshchera forests and lakes, not far from the Meshchersky National Park. Pine forest surrounds the complex from all sides, creating an inimitable atmosphere of unity with nature.

The ecopark has everything for a full-fledged rest: guest houses, a four-star hotel, a restaurant, running and ski trails, sports equipment rental. In winter, the biathlon complex "Almaz" operates here, and in summer guests enjoy walks along forest trails. Outdoor cameras of Varskie allow you to assess the scale of this territory and see how the ecopark changes depending on the season.

Thermae Varskie: Year-round Recreation

The second stage of the SPA complex "Thermae" opened in 2023 and immediately attracted the attention of healthy lifestyle enthusiasts. The complex includes 10 different saunas, an outdoor thermal pool for year-round use, two children's pools and a special children's area. Swimming in a hot outdoor pool when there is snow around is an experience worth trying at least once.

Thermae Varskie has become a place of attraction not only for the village residents, but for the entire Ryazan region. The complex operates year-round, and you can observe its guests through webcams live. This is especially convenient for those who are planning a trip and want to assess the occupancy of thermal pools in advance.

Petrovo-Solovovo Estate: Lost Heritage

The history of the Petrovo-Solovovo estate is a story of rise and fall. Major General B. M. Petrovo-Solovovo owned vast lands in Varskie, and his estate was the center of economic life of the district. Timber was harvested here on an industrial scale, floated down rivers and sold. But the revolutionary storms of 1917 did not spare the lord's estate — peasants from the village of Polyany destroyed the estate in September of the same year.

Today, only traces in archives and memories of old-timers remain of the former greatness. However, the places where the estate once stood are still picturesque. Varskie webcams aimed at the historical locations of the village allow you to see what this land looks like now — quiet, overgrown, keeping the memory of the past.

Narrow-gauge Railway: Transport Page

In 1898, the Varskie station of the Ryazan-Vladimir narrow-gauge railway was opened in Varskie. This branch connected Ryazan with remote uyezds and played an important role in the transportation of timber, grain and other goods. The narrow-gauge railway operated for several decades, leaving a trace in toponymy and the memory of local residents.

Today, only embankments and remains of tracks remain from the railway, but for transport history enthusiasts this is a real find. A walk along the former railway embankment is like a journey through time. And if you cannot come in person, Varskie webcams will show the surroundings of the former station in real time.

Weather and Climate in Varskie

The climate of the village is typical for the middle zone of Russia: moderately continental, with clearly defined seasons. Winters here are frosty, but without extreme cold, summers are warm and humid. In spring, Varskie is drowning in the greenery of blooming gardens, and in autumn the pine forest turns golden.

The weather in Varskie now is what interests many who are planning a trip to the ecopark or thermas. Outdoor cameras in real time allow you to see what the weather is like in the village right now: whether it is snowing, whether the sun is shining, how busy the roads are. This is especially relevant in the winter season, when roads can be snow-covered.

The village of Varskie is small in size, but has a developed infrastructure. There are residential quarters, educational institutions, shops, healthcare facilities. The central part of the village is concentrated around the college and administrative buildings, and residential areas extend from it in different directions.

The ecopark zone occupies a significant part of the territory of Varskie. It is here that the main tourist facilities are concentrated: thermas, hotel, sports complexes.
