Dimitrov Street in Sobinka: the history of the name
The small town of Sobinka in Vladimir Oblast is rich in historical paradoxes. One of its central streets is named after the Bulgarian revolutionary Georgi Dimitrov (1882–1949), who became world-famous after his trial in Leipzig. The Nazis accused Dimitrov of setting the Reichstag on fire, but he turned the trial into a platform to expose fascism and was acquitted. The case made headlines worldwide, and during the Soviet era, streets in dozens of cities across the country were named after Dimitrov — including in Sobinka.
Locals often call the street simply Dimitrov. It is one of the town's main thoroughfares, where residential buildings, cultural institutions, and heritage sites stand side by side. It is here, amid this urban landscape, that the playground is located, broadcast live by the webcam.
Sobinka: from a factory settlement to a district center
The town of Sobinka traces its history back to 1856, when brothers Matvey and Luka Losev, who came from a peasant family, purchased the Sobinka wasteland from Count A.N. Zubov for 2,500 rubles in silver. On this land they founded a textile factory, around which a workers' settlement grew. Over time, the settlement expanded, was granted town status, and became the administrative center of Sobinsky District in Vladimir Oblast.
Today, Sobinka is a town with a population of about 17,000, preserving the spirit of provincial Russia with elements of industrial heritage. Dimitrov Street is one of the places where this heritage is most clearly visible.
Playground on Dimitrov Street
The children's playground on Dimitrov Street is a classic example of urban space where every detail has been carefully considered. A bright play structure with red, blue, and yellow elements is installed on a sandy surface that cushions falls and is safe for toddlers. Tall coniferous trees along the edges of the playground provide natural shade on hot days, making sun exposure comfortable.
To the left of the play zone runs a paved pedestrian path with metal benches — a convenient spot for parents watching over their children. A green grassy area complements the space, and urban infrastructure elements blend organically into the landscape. The online camera allows you to observe all of this in real time — you can see children playing, how the lighting changes throughout the day, and how the playground looks in different seasons.

Building of the Factory and Vocational School (3 Dimitrov Street) — an architectural monument built in 1920, a cultural heritage site. Its facade is adorned with brickwork and stucco, reminiscent of the pre-revolutionary era.
Museum of the History of Sobinka (24a Dimitrov Street) — here are collected exhibits telling about the town's factory past, workers' daily life, and revolutionary events. The school often visits the museum, and the playground becomes part of their route.
History of the playground
The playground on Dimitrov Street appeared in the 2010s as part of a courtyard improvement program. Before that, the site was a vacant lot with makeshift swings. After reconstruction, the playground received modern equipment, safe surfacing, and green plantings. Today it is one of the favorite recreation spots for families with children in Sobinka.
