Mali Lošinj in Croatia — Online Web Camera with Harbor View
Mali Lošinj — the pearl of the Croatian archipelago
This online camera is positioned on an elevation above the coastal town of Mali Lošinj — the largest island settlement on the Adriatic Sea. The town is located on the eastern coast of Lošinj Island, which together with the neighboring Cres Island forms the northern group of Croatian islands in the Kvarner Gulf. The camera offers a view of the protected harbor waters, where dozens of yachts and boats are moored, and on the opposite shore — urban development rising along a hill slope covered with evergreen vegetation.
The largest island town on the Adriatic
Mali Lošinj long remained the most important maritime and trading center of the region. In the 19th century, one of the largest merchant fleets on the Adriatic was based here, and the town experienced an economic boom. It was during this period that villas of Austrian aristocrats were built along the waterfront, many of which have survived to this day. Today, the population of Mali Lošinj is about 8,000 people, but during the summer season the town hosts many times more guests.
Island of health since 1892
In June 1892, Mali Lošinj and Veli Lošinj were officially declared climatic health resorts. The resort charter was published in September of the same year, marking the beginning of more than 125 years of health tourism tradition. This tradition is based not on marketing, but on real natural factors: pine forests, mild Mediterranean climate, and pristine sea air have created a unique environment here that is beneficial for the respiratory system.
Unique climate and healing air
Mali Lošinj is one of the sunniest regions in Croatia, with more than 2,600–2,800 hours of sunshine per year. The air quality on the island is classified as the highest category (category 1) — the best in the country. Aleppo pines, which cover a significant part of the island, release essential oils and phytoncides that disinfect the air and make it particularly beneficial for people with asthma and allergies. Low pollen content and constant coastal breezes provide natural ventilation of the atmosphere.
Harbor and yachting — the heart of the town
The center of the camera frame is occupied by the harbor waters — a protected bay where yachts, motor boats, and fishing vessels are moored. The port infrastructure of Mali Lošinj includes modern yacht berths and is one of the largest yachting centers on the eastern Adriatic coast. The town waterfront along the harbor is a place for walks and meetings, surrounded by historic buildings, restaurants, and cafés. On the opposite shore of the bay, urban development with characteristic red tiled roofs is visible, rising along the hill slope.
What to see on Lošinj Island
Near Mali Lošinj is Veli Lošinj — a historically larger settlement that has today become a quiet resort with a picturesque waterfront. In Čikat Bay lies Čikat Forest Park — a natural recreation area with a pine forest and beaches with turquoise water. Lošinj Island is known as one of the habitats of bottlenose dolphins in the Adriatic — excursions to observe them are available from the local port. In the town center, the Apoxyomenos Museum operates, dedicated to an ancient Greek bronze statue discovered in 1896 in the sea off the island's coast. Among the historic buildings, St. Martin's Church (built in 1450) and St. Nicholas Church (1857) stand out.
