Špik Mountain in Gozd Martuljek — Online Webcam
Where Gozd Martuljek Is Located
The village of Gozd Martuljek is situated in the upper valley of the Sava River, between the resort towns of Kranjska Gora and Jesenice, at the foot of the mighty Martuljek mountain group. This is northwestern Slovenia, the Upper Carniola region, where the Julian Alps rise like a wall above green valleys. The village sits at an altitude of about 755 meters above sea level, and it is here, on the border of alpine meadows and coniferous forests, that a webcam online is installed, offering a view of one of the country's most impressive panoramas.
Gozd Martuljek is not just a dot on the map — it is a gateway to the wild nature of the Julian Alps. Trails to the peaks start here, and in winter a ski resort operates, known for its well-groomed slopes and scenic landscapes. The online camera allows you to witness this beauty in real time without leaving your home.
The Martuljek Mountain Group and Špik Mountain
The Martuljek mountain group is, according to the official tourism portal of Slovenia, "undoubtedly the most beautiful mountain group of the Julian Alps." It was declared a landscape park back in 1949, and since 1981 it has been part of Triglav National Park — Slovenia's only national park. This is a true wilderness paradise for lovers of untouched nature, rising directly above the village.
Dominating the group is Mount Špik — the fourteenth highest peak of the Julian Alps with an elevation of 2472 meters (8110 feet). Although Špik is not the highest point of the Martuljek group, it offers the most grandiose panorama: every tower of the ridge from Rokav to Škrlatica would be visible before your eyes if you stood on the summit. The jagged silhouette of Špik with its bare rock walls is the signature image of this area, and it is Špik that takes center stage in the frame of the Gozd Martuljek webcam.
Ski Resort: Slopes and Runs
The ski slopes of Gozd Martuljek are located at an altitude of 785 to 1215 meters above sea level. This is an area where the snow cover remains stable throughout the winter, and the elevation difference creates conditions for skiing of varying difficulty levels. The resort is equipped with 5 chairlifts and 18 surface lifts, and the total length of runs is 20 kilometers: 10 kilometers of easy, 8 kilometers of intermediate, and 2 kilometers of difficult.
In winter, the live webcam shows the snow-covered slopes with skiers moving down them and queues at the lifts. But even outside the season, the resort is alive: in summer, cable cars operate for hikers, and the slopes turn into green pastures. Notably, Gozd Martuljek is home to Slovenia's first illuminated sledding slope — this place became a pioneer of winter entertainment in the country.
The Sava Dolinka River and Martuljek Waterfalls
At the foot of the Martuljek group flows the Sava Dolinka River — one of the two sources of the great Sava River, which later passes through Belgrade and flows into the Danube. The length of the Sava Dolinka is 45 kilometers, and it originates as the Nadiža stream in the Planica Valley beneath Mount Zadnja Ponca at an altitude of 1222 meters, near the Italian border. The famous Sava Dolinka is known for its powerful rainbow trout — this is the river's calling card, attracting anglers from across Europe.
In the vicinity of Gozd Martuljek hides another natural wonder — the Martuljek Waterfalls. The Upper Waterfall descends from a height of 110 meters and consists of three tiers, and downstream lies the Lower Waterfall. They are located on the northern boundary of Triglav National Park, and can be reached on foot from the village along a well-marked trail. In winter, the waterfalls freeze, turning into giant ice columns, while in summer lush alpine greenery flourishes around them.
How to Get to the Village
Gozd Martuljek is located on the Jesenice — Kranjska Gora road, one of the main transport arteries of northwestern Slovenia. When crossing the bridge over the Sava Dolinka River, you need to turn right — behind the bend on the left is a parking area for tourists. The village is just a few kilometers west of Kranjska Gora, and about 15 kilometers north of Jesenice.
For those traveling by public transport, the nearest railway station is Jesenice, from where you can reach the village by bus or taxi. Motorists will appreciate the quality road surface and scenic views along the way. The Gozd Martuljek webcam allows you to assess road conditions and weather before your trip — especially useful in winter when the slopes may be covered with fresh snow.
What You Can See on the Camera
The camera is positioned to capture the widest possible panorama of the mountain landscape. In the foreground are green meadows and pastures with characteristic wooden fence-gates and a worn path, and in the lower part of the frame, the roofs of village buildings are visible. The middle ground is entirely occupied by dense coniferous forest covering the mountain slopes — firs and spruces that stand snow-covered in winter and fill the air with resinous fragrance in summer.
In the background rise the massive rocky peaks of the Martuljek mountain group with bare rock walls and jagged silhouettes. At the center of the composition is Mount Špik, dominating the surrounding peaks. The sky is most often blue with light, thin clouds that cling to the foot of the mountains. The online stream operates around the clock, and at different times of day the landscape changes: at dawn the rocks turn pink, the day passes in bright light, and at sunset the ridges are painted in crimson tones.
In winter, the live webcam shows the snow-covered slopes of the ski resort, with colorful figures of skiers moving down them. In summer — green pastures with grazing cattle and tourists with backpacks. In spring and autumn, you can observe how the vegetation changes: from the tender green of May to the golden September. This is not just a broadcast — it is a window into the life of alpine nature, accessible to anyone with an internet connection.
