Tegrozero Village in Arkhangelsk Oblast — Online Web Camera
Tegrozero — a village on the lake shore amid the northern taiga
Tegrozero is a small forest village in the Velsky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast, hidden among the dense coniferous forests and lakes of the Russian North. It is a place where life flows steadily, governed by the rhythms of nature and logging. The village sits on the shore of the lake of the same name, from which the Tegra River originates, carrying its waters into the Onega basin. Today, you can visit not only by railway — the Tegrozero web camera in real time shows the central part of the settlement, allowing you to see the life of the northern hinterland from anywhere in the country.
The village was founded in 1960 as a logging camp, and since then the timber industry has remained the backbone of the local economy. The town-forming enterprise is the Tegrinsky Integrated Timber Enterprise, which still provides employment for most residents today. Despite its remoteness and harsh climate, Tegrozero maintains its status as a living settlement — there is a school, an administration building, shops, and roads connecting the village to the district center.
History of the logging village
The history of Tegrozero is inseparably linked to the development of the forest wealth of the Pinezhye region. During the Soviet era, a railway branch "Yura — Tegro-Ozero" was built here, along which harvested timber was transported. This branch line existed until 2010, after which it was dismantled. Today, traces of the former railway can still be seen in the vicinity of the village — embankments, remnants of bridges, and clearings recall the times when logging here was in full swing.
In 1971, an entire complex of infrastructure facilities was built in Tegrozero: a lower warehouse, a boiler house, an electrical workshop, a kindergarten, a primary school, a bakery, and a dormitory for workers. This was the heyday of the village, when people from across the region came here seeking work in the forest. Today, some of these buildings are abandoned, but others continue to serve the residents. The estimated population for 2026 is 608 people — for a northern forest village, this is a quite viable community.
Geographical location and nature
Tegrozero is located in the northwestern part of the Velsky District, on the shore of Lake Tegrozero, from which the Tegra River flows. To the north of the village, another waterway originates — the Sulanda River. The surroundings represent a typical middle taiga landscape: dense mixed forests of spruce, pine, birch, and aspen, alternating with swamps and lakes. The terrain is hilly, with elevation changes that create picturesque views from the heights.
The climate here is moderately continental with northern features — long snowy winters, short cool summers, and abundant precipitation throughout the year. The average January temperature drops to minus 15–18 degrees, while in July it rarely exceeds +16–17°C. In winter, the snow cover reaches 60–80 centimeters, and in summer the forests fill with mosquitoes and midges — inevitable companions of the northern taiga in the warm season.
How to get to Tegrozero
The village of Tegrozero is located about 140 kilometers northwest of Velsk, the district center. You can reach it by dirt roads, which become difficult to pass during the rainy season. The main route runs through the village of Yura, from which the railway branch once extended. Today there is no railway here, and road transport is the only means of connection to the "mainland."
For those who want to see Tegrozero without a long journey through forest routes, there is an online camera broadcasting a view of the village in real time. It is an opportunity to touch the life of the northern hinterland without leaving home — just open the stream and watch how the lighting changes, clouds move, and life goes on in a small forest village on the lake shore.
Attractions and monuments
Despite its modest size, Tegrozero has its own memorial sites. The village has a stele monument to the soldiers who fell during the Great Patriotic War. This memorial is a tribute to fellow villagers who did not return from the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. On Victory Day and other memorial dates, rallies and flower-laying ceremonies are held here.
The administration of the Tegrinskoye municipal formation is located at: village of Tegrozero, Mira Street, building 7. It is this building — one of the most noticeable in the village — that falls into the web camera's lens. Its turquoise walls and the Russian flag on the facade have become a kind of calling card of Tegrozero for those who get acquainted with the village through the online broadcast.
Climate and weather in Tegrozero
The weather in Tegrozero is typical for the northern regions of Arkhangelsk Oblast. Winter lasts from November to April, with frosts down to minus 30–35°C during particularly cold periods. Summer is short — from June to August, with white nights in June and early July, when the sun barely dips below the horizon. Autumn comes early — already in September the foliage turns yellow, and the first frosts are possible in late August.
The Tegrozero online camera allows you to observe the weather in the village at any time of year. In winter, you can see snow-covered roofs of houses and trees wrapped in a white blanket. The forests around the village transform with the season — from dark green summer attire to snowy winter slumber. In spring, when the snow melts, dirt roads are exposed, turning into impassable mud, and in autumn the forest is painted in yellow-crimson tones.
Life of the forest village today
Modern Tegrozero is a typical northern village, sustained by logging and government institutions. The Tegrinsky timber enterprise remains the main employer, although logging volumes have significantly decreased compared to the Soviet period. Young people gradually move to cities, but some residents remain — attachment to their native places, fishing, hunting, and forest berries keep people on the land of their ancestors.
Elements of Soviet infrastructure are preserved in the village: a bakery, shops, an administration building, a school. The roads are mostly dirt, electricity is supplied by power lines that stretch through the forests from the district center. Communication with the outside world is maintained by road transport and, of course, the internet — it is thanks to the network connection that the operation of the web camera broadcasting the view of Tegrozero in real time became possible.
What you can see on the camera
The web camera is installed on an elevation and shows a panoramic view of the central part of the village of Tegrozero. In the foreground is a single-story turquoise (blue-green) building with a white metal gable roof. This is the administration of the Tegrinskoye municipal formation, located on Mira Street. A Russian flag flies at the facade by the entrance, and there are steps and flower beds by the porch that adorn the building with bright colors in summer.
Behind the administration, wooden village houses with sloping roofs are visible — some well-maintained, others noticeably dilapidated and standing abandoned. Between the houses grow trees, grass, and dirt paths are laid. In the background rises a dense mixed forest — spruces, pines, birches — stretching to the very horizon. Electric lines on wooden poles run across the entire composition, and to the side, dirt roads leading into the forest are visible. The sky is mostly cloudy — overcast weather with low clouds is characteristic of these places, although on clear days the sun floods the village with bright light.
The camera operates around the clock, allowing you to observe Tegrozero both day and night. In the dark, the administration building is illuminated, and light flickers in the windows of houses. In winter, the landscape transforms — white snow covers the roofs and the ground, and trees stand in snowy caps. The forest around Tegrozero becomes fabulously beautiful, especially on frosty sunny days when the snow sparkles and shimmers in the sun.
