Anti-aircraft batteries were located here, protecting "Festung Hoek van Holland" (Fortress Hook of Holland), as well as resistance strongholds along the entire beach coastline.

After the war, the landscape changed dramatically: large volumes of sand were deposited on the northern side of the Nieuwe Waterweg, shifting the beach approximately 800 meters to the west from its pre-war position. Today, one of the German bunkers operates as the Atlantikwall-Museum, serving as a reminder of the dark period in the history of these places.
