Totmina Street in Krasnoyarsk — Online Webcam
Totmina Street: A Major Thoroughfare in Oktyabrsky District
Totmina Street is one of the key transport arteries of the Oktyabrsky District in Krasnoyarsk, running through the Severo-Zapadny microdistrict. It is a six-lane highway stretching 1,102 meters, almost always packed with cars and public transit. The live webcam on Totmina Street lets you monitor traffic in real time at one of the busiest intersections in this part of the city. The residential area is dominated by apartment buildings, while commercial properties and parking zones line the roadway.
Nikolai Totmin — A Name on the Map of Krasnoyarsk
The street is named after Nikolai Yakovlevich Totmin (1919–1942) — a fighter pilot and the first resident of the Krasnoyarsk Krai to be awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Nikolai Totmin was born on December 19, 1919 in the village of Ust-Yarul in the Irbeysky District. He was drafted into the Red Army in 1939 and graduated from the Bataysk Military Aviation Pilot School named after A.K. Serov in 1940. He served in the 15th Fighter Aviation Regiment.
Senior Lieutenant Totmin was killed on October 23, 1942 in a group air battle 18 km north of the city of Tosno in the Leningrad Region. His plane crashed into a swamp in occupied territory, and the pilot's remains were not discovered until the spring of 1990. The decision to name the street after the hero was made by the executive committee of the Krasnoyarsk City Council. Today, Totmina Street is one of 41 streets in Krasnoyarsk named after participants of the Great Patriotic War.
From the Stroitel Cinema to a Mural: What's Around
At Totmina Street, 1 stands the building of the former Stroitel cinema — one of Krasnoyarsk's most famous long-term construction projects. Reconstruction work to convert it into a shopping and entertainment center began about 20 years ago and has still not been completed. This site has long become one of the city's symbols of unfinished construction.
Meanwhile, a mural featuring a portrait of Nikolai Totmin has appeared on the facade of one of the buildings — an image of a young, smiling pilot. The composition is dedicated to the memory of the senior lieutenant who gave his life in 1942. This art object has become one of the elements of the street's improvement and a tribute to its hero.
