Cologne Bonn Airport was founded in 1938 as a Luftwaffe military airfield on the site of a former artillery range in Wahnheide. Since 1951, the airport began serving civilian flights, rapidly transforming from a military facility into a regional transport hub. The airport is named after Konrad Adenauer — the first Federal Chancellor of Germany, which underscores its political and economic importance for the region.
