Smugglers promoted passage through the tunnel on social media before its discovery. The tunnel will be sealed by Mexican authorities.

An El Paso resident sued the United States for assault, battery, and unlawful entry after, he claims, a US Customs and Border Protection agent shot him. Cross-border criminal activity, especially at night, impacts overall safety in certain parts of El Paso due to proximity to one of Mexico's most dangerous cities.
