International Solidarity Bridge in Laredo — Online Webcam
History of the Solidarity Bridge
The International Solidarity Bridge is one of the key border crossings between Mexico and the United States, connecting the state of Nuevo León with the Texas city of Laredo. The structure was built in 1991 and officially opened in 1992. The bridge was named after the Mexican planned community of Colombia (Colombia, Nuevo León), which was created specifically to develop international trade in the region. The construction initiative belonged to the government of Nuevo León — the state has the shortest border with the U.S. and needed its own port to compete with neighboring Coahuila and Tamaulipas.
Technical Specifications of the Crossing
The bridge is an eight-lane transportation structure spanning the Rio Grande (Río Bravo). The northern end of the bridge connects to Texas State Highway 255 in close proximity to Webb County, while the southern end connects to Nuevo León State Highway 1. The facility operates from 8:00 AM to midnight, handling a significant flow of commercial vehicles. In terms of cargo volume, the crossing ranks third in the Laredo customs district, processing approximately 15% of all commercial traffic in the region.
Economic Significance for the Region
Laredo is the largest land port on the U.S.-Mexico border, and the Solidarity Bridge plays an important role in this system. The crossing primarily serves freight traffic between the industrial centers of Nuevo León and the North American market. Daily crossing statistics are recorded using RFID technology and are available on the bridge's official website. Real-time wait time data is also published on the CBP Border Wait Times portal.
Major Expansion Project 2024–2025
In 2024, Laredo Mayor Victor Trevino and Nuevo León Governor Samuel Garcia signed an agreement to expand the bridge from 8 to 16 lanes. In 2025, the U.S. side officially approved the project. The expansion provides for the creation of exclusive lanes for non-commercial vehicles and buses, which should significantly relieve congestion at the crossing and speed up border passage for passengers.
Geographic Location and Surroundings
The bridge is located in the municipality of Anáhuac, Nuevo León, approximately 247 kilometers north of Monterrey and 22 kilometers northeast of the International Trade Bridge. The nearest major city on the American side is Laredo, Texas, with a population of about 250,000 people. The area is characterized by gentle banks of the Rio Grande and typical desert vegetation of the region.
What You Can See on the Camera
The webcam is installed directly at the toll plaza of the Solidarity Bridge and broadcasts the road situation around the clock. The field of view captures traffic flow in both directions — north toward Texas and south toward Nuevo León, Mexico. The camera allows you to assess lane congestion, the presence of queues before border control, and the overall intensity of traffic. The live broadcast operates 24 hours a day, providing up-to-date information for drivers planning to cross the border and anyone interested in the operation of this strategically important border crossing.
