Lugano Skatepark — Live Webcam Online in Real Time
History of Lugano Skatepark: From Idea to Legend
The Lugano skatepark is not just a concrete riding area, but a true symbol of the local skaters' fight for their space. It all started when extreme sports enthusiasts in the canton of Ticino joined forces with city authorities to create a full-fledged skateboarding infrastructure. The Lugano skatepark was created through collaboration between local skaters and the Department of Sport of the City of Lugano — the first works began in September 2001 with the construction of bowls. This was a rare case where the city administration not only allocated land but invested in a full-fledged project together with the athletes.
The official opening of the Lugano skatepark took place on September 14, 2002. Since then, the facility has become a magnet for skaters, BMX riders, and rollerbladers from across southern Switzerland. Over more than two decades of existence, the park has evolved from a simple concrete area into a legendary venue hosting international competitions.
Architecture and Layout
The Lugano skatepark is located at Via Trevano 90, 6900 Lugano, Switzerland — in a residential area on the outskirts of the city. The facility is an open concrete complex with various riding elements. There are concrete bowls of different depths, ramps, wave-like surfaces, and rails — everything needed for skateboarding, BMX, and aggressive inline skating.
Green mesh fences are installed around the perimeter of the skatepark, which serve a protective function while not blocking the view for spectators. In the left part of the area, a yellow circular sign is visible — a landmark for those looking for a specific zone of the park. In the background are trees, city buildings, and parked cars, which emphasizes the integration of the skatepark into the urban environment of Lugano.
The skatepark includes a central building with a bar, restrooms, and a terrace, as well as a specialized skate shop. This makes the facility a self-sufficient space: here you can not only ride but also have a snack, socialize, buy parts or equipment. The terrace of the central building opens directly onto the riding area, so spectators can watch tricks in comfort.
Zuk Club Sundial: Art on Concrete
One of the most striking chapters in the history of the Lugano skatepark is connected with the Zuk Club art group from Moscow. In 2014, the Moscow art group Zuk Club transformed the skatepark into a functioning sundial by painting a 1000 sq.m pool with spectral graffiti patterns. This was an ambitious project that combined street art, urbanism, and functional design.
Zuk Club artists painted the concrete surfaces of the bowl so that shadows from structural elements at different times of day pointed to specific areas of the design — turning the skatepark into a giant sundial. The project received international recognition and was covered in architectural and art publications. The graffiti on the park's surfaces became not just decor but part of the functional space — riding on the painted concrete turned out to be no less interesting than on ordinary surfaces.
Today, graffiti is an integral part of the visual identity of the Lugano skatepark. The elements of the facility are decorated with bright paintings that are periodically updated. This creates a unique atmosphere that distinguishes the Lugano skatepark from typical concrete facilities in other Swiss cities.
Competitions and Sports Life
The Lugano skatepark has long outgrown its role as a local facility — it has become a venue for national and international level competitions. The Swiss Championship, Vans Off the Wall, the classic Lugano event, and Okjokerfest have all been held here. These events bring together hundreds of participants and spectators, turning the skatepark into the epicenter of extreme sports in the region.
Okjokerfest is one of the most well-known events regularly held at the Lugano skatepark. The festival brings together skaters, BMX riders, musicians, and artists for several days. The Via Trevano venue transforms into a sports and cultural space with live music, workshops, and demonstration performances.
Thanks to the quality of infrastructure and convenient location in Lugano, the skatepark attracts athletes not only from Switzerland but also from neighboring Italy. The proximity to the border makes the facility accessible to Italian skaters from Lombardy and Piedmont, creating a unique international atmosphere.
Location and Transport Accessibility
The Lugano skatepark is located in the Trevano district, a few kilometers from the city center. Address: Via Trevano 90, 6900 Lugano. You can get here by city bus — Lugano's public transport routes cover this area. For those driving, there are parking spaces near the facility.
Lugano is the largest city in the canton of Ticino, located on the shore of the lake of the same name. The city is connected by rail to Zurich, Milan, and other major cities. Lugano railway station is approximately 3 km from the skatepark, so arriving by train with a subsequent transfer to a bus is a perfectly viable option.
The Trevano district is residential and quiet, with typical Mediterranean architecture for Ticino. The skatepark blends organically into the urban development: it is not enclosed by a solid fence but is open for viewing, making it part of the everyday life of the neighborhood.
Visiting Rules and Opening Hours
The skatepark is a municipal facility with free access, open daily from 9:00 AM to 10:30 PM. This means anyone can come with a board or bike and ride without time limits and without an entrance fee. Free access is an important principle of Lugano's municipal sports policy.
In the evening, the skatepark is lit, allowing riding after dark. Closing at 10:30 PM is due to the need to maintain quiet in the residential area. During daytime hours, the facility is busiest — especially after school and on weekends.
Standard safety rules apply within the skatepark: the use of protective gear (helmet, knee pads, elbow pads) is recommended. For the youngest visitors, there may be restrictions on time or riding areas — it's best to check on-site or on the municipality's website.
Lugano Skatepark Webcam: What You'll See
The online camera is positioned to cover the maximum area of the skatepark. The broadcast comes from a height, providing an excellent view of all the key elements of the facility. You'll see concrete bowls, ramps, wave-like surfaces, and rails — the full variety of obstacles that make the Lugano skatepark attractive to riders of all levels.
The graffiti on the concrete surfaces is clearly visible during daylight hours — the bright spectral patterns left over from the Zuk Club project create a recognizable visual identity of the facility. The green mesh fences around the perimeter and the yellow circular sign on the left side of the frame serve as landmarks for navigation.
In the background of the camera view are trees, city buildings, and parked cars. The red car often visible in the frame has become an unofficial symbol of the broadcast — viewers use it to check the time and weather conditions. In good weather, the camera offers a view of the greenery of the surrounding courtyards and the roofs of the Trevano district.
