The initiative was supported by city authorities, and by Resolution of the City Duma No. 332 dated May 11, 2005 the square officially received its current name.

Victory Stele: Architecture and Symbolism

The main decoration of the square is the monumental Victory Stele, erected for the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory. The monument was unveiled in 2005 and became one of the key events in the city's public life. The project was authored by Anton Kapersky, who created a laconic and expressive memorial.

The architectural design of the stele is built on the contrast of materials: three vertical parallelepipeds of varying sizes made of black granite and white marble symbolize eternal memory and mourning for the fallen.
