Victory Square in Georgiyevsk — Online Webcam with a View of the City Square
History of Victory Square in Georgiyevsk
The central square of Georgiyevsk has come a long way from a trading place to a well-arranged public space. At its inception, the square was named Bazaar Square, and after the October Revolution it was renamed Cooperative Square, but the townspeople still called it Bazaar Square. The modern name — Victory Square — was established much later, reflecting the memory of the great feat. Today it is a spacious central square with public buildings along the perimeter, where an online camera is also located, allowing you to observe the life of the city in real time.
Georgiyevsk is one of the young cities of Stavropol Krai, and Victory Square holds a key position in its layout. Public life is concentrated here, city events take place, and on weekdays you can observe the measured rhythm of a resort town. The webcam on Victory Square gives you the opportunity to see this space from anywhere in the world.
Large-scale reconstruction of 2019
The turning point in the fate of the square was the large-scale reconstruction completed on September 6, 2019. The project became possible thanks to the support of the Governor of Stavropol Krai, Vladimir Vladimirov. More than 60 million rubles were spent on the reconstruction of the square — a very significant amount for the city.
During the work, the old asphalt was replaced with paving stones, the stage was radically updated, new lighting and an irrigation system were installed. The square was transformed: comfortable walking zones, green spaces, and, most importantly for families with children, a colorful playground appeared. The reconstruction also affected engineering communications: underground networks were modernized, which made it possible to avoid problems with flooding during rainy periods.
Monuments and sculptures of the square
The architectural ensemble of Victory Square is formed by several iconic objects. In front of the city administration building is the monument to V.I. Lenin, installed on April 25, 1980. Sculptor N.A. Shcherbakov and architect L.B. Raputov created the monument, which stands on a pedestal of red granite. Behind the monument is the Alley of Glory with a stand featuring photographs of labor heroes of the city and district, as well as a fountain.
In 2018, the square received a new decoration — the sculpture "The Townsman", unveiled on September 21, 2018. The initiators of the installation were city residents Andrey Leontiev and Alexander Rogozhin. This is a tribute to the ordinary people whose hands rebuilt the city after the tragedy. The sculpture has become a symbol of the continuity of generations and the labor spirit of Georgiyevsk residents.
The square also features equestrian sculptures on pedestals and topiary in the shape of horses with a carriage — these landscape design elements appeared after the 2019 reconstruction and give the space a special flavor. All of this can be seen through the webcam in real time.
Playground — the heart of the renovated square
The main decoration of the renovated Victory Square is a large children's playground in the form of a colorfully painted castle. Green tent roofs, red flags, yellow and brown slides, stairs, and climbing frames — everything is here for active recreation of children of different ages. The playground surface is made of dark, safe material that softens falls and allows kids to run without the risk of injury.
There is always a lively atmosphere around the playground: children ride bicycles and scooters, adults watch the little ones from comfortable benches. A toy "bicycle" and topiary in the shape of horses with a carriage complement the play space, turning it into a real fairy tale for the young residents of Georgiyevsk. The online camera on Victory Square allows you to see how this space comes to life throughout the day.
Infrastructure and surroundings of the square
Victory Square is not only a place of recreation but also a transport hub of Georgiyevsk. Administrative buildings and commercial facilities are located along the perimeter, and on the square itself there is a wide paved surface that is comfortable to be on even on a hot summer day. Multi-story buildings, trees, traffic lights — all this creates a typical appearance of a modern Russian city.
The city administration building dominates the architectural surroundings of the square. Opposite it is the monument to Lenin, behind which the Alley of Glory begins. The fountain located in this part of the square is especially attractive in the warm season. The webcam on Victory Square in Georgiyevsk covers all these elements, giving a complete picture of the urban environment.
