Grunwald Square in Krakow — Online Webcam
Historic Crossroads: From Jan Matejko to Grunwald
Krakow is a city where every stone breathes history, and modern life pulses against a backdrop of medieval walls. One such contrasting landmark is Grunwald Square, which locals simply call "rondo." This webcam in real time shows not just an intersection, but a vital transport hub connecting the Old Town with the new districts of Poland's former capital.
Officially, the square bears the name of the great artist — Plac Jana Matejki. However, it is popularly known as Grunwaldzka. This name stuck thanks to the Grunwald Battle monument standing in the center of the traffic circle. The monument was solemnly unveiled in 1910 to mark the 500th anniversary of the famous 1410 battle. The central figure of the composition is the equestrian statue of King Władysław II Jagiełło, who led the combined armies of Poland and Lithuania.
Architectural Ensemble and Transport Artery
The square is located north of the Old Town, effectively on the border of the historic center. It is a busy transport interchange through which the main public transport routes pass. The address of the site is ul. Plac Jana Matejki. On the right side of the frame rise modern buildings, including a structure with a large white spherical element — this is the ICE Krakow congress center. Here you can almost always observe a dense flow of cars, articulated buses, and tourist coaches.
Vistula and Wavel: Views of the Opposite Bank
The background of the broadcast is no less impressive. Green embankments and park areas stretch along the roads, and beyond them flows the wide Vistula River. On the opposite bank, historic buildings are visible, among which stands out a white structure with two towers resembling a cathedral, as well as the silhouettes of Wawel Castle. The online camera allows you to appreciate how harmoniously Krakow's modern rhythm blends with its centuries-old heritage.
How to Get to Grunwald Square
Getting here by public transport is very easy. The square is a major bus and tram interchange. The Basztowa stop serves trams No. 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 13, 14, 15, 19, 24. Buses run on routes 115, 124, 152, 192, 501, 502, 515 (Basztowa Lot or Dworzec Główny stop) and 105, 129, 130, 179, 194, 208, 228 (Kraków Główny stop). Nearby are the main gates of the Old Town — Florian Gate and the Barbican, as well as the beginning of the famous "Royal Road" leading to Wawel Castle.
What You Can See on the Camera
The live broadcast offers a bird's-eye view of a multi-lane urban interchange. In the center of the frame is a roundabout with a monument, around which traffic moves continuously: blue and white articulated buses, cars, and white tourist coaches. Pedestrian walkways run along the roadway. In the background, a wide river is visible with green embankments and park areas with trees. On the opposite bank — a white historic building with two towers and other ancient structures. On the right side of the frame — modern buildings with a large white spherical element.
