Road bridge on Krakowska Street in Mysłowice — online webcam
Bridge over the Branica River on Krakowska Street
The live webcam is installed on a road bridge spanning the Branica River in the Krakowska Street area. This is one of the city's key transport arteries, connecting the central districts of Mysłowice with the southern neighborhoods. The camera broadcasts real-time traffic on the multi-lane road, allowing you to observe the flow of passenger cars, road conditions, and the surrounding landscape.
The bridge underwent major reconstruction in 2020. During the repair work, damaged and corroded rivets were replaced, and a modern lighting system was installed — approximately 662 luminaires and 4 spotlights to illuminate the roadway. The bridge supports are now lit in yellow, and the load-bearing structure in white, giving the structure a striking appearance at night.
History of Mysłowice: from settlement to city
The settlement of Mysłowice was founded in the 11th century, and city rights were granted in the 14th century. After a break in the 18th–19th centuries, city rights were restored in 1861. The city is located in southern Poland, in Silesia, near Katowice.
In 1683, Mysłowice lay on the route of Polish King John III Sobieski to Vienna. This was a period of prosperity for the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, when Polish troops marched to aid the Austrian capital besieged by the Ottoman army.
The 1921 plebiscite and the fate of Silesia
During the 1921 plebiscite in Mysłowice, 56% of votes were cast for incorporation into Germany. However, after the Third Silesian Uprising, the city became part of Poland in 1922. This period became a turning point for the entire region, determining its affiliation for decades to come.
Difficult years: 1940–1945
In 1940, a German police prison was established in Mysłowice, serving as a branch of the Auschwitz concentration camp. On January 28, 1945, the city was liberated by the Red Army and the Polish People's Army, putting an end to five years of German occupation.
