On the city beach Strand in Vlissingen, Zeeland province, there is an unusual structure — Zandpaviljoen Pier 7. This multifunctional building with panoramic glass walls, a wooden terrace, and a balcony with metal railings has become a new attraction on the coast of the Walcheren peninsula. The architectural firm Bureau Kroner designed it as a "golvend strandpaviljoen" — a wavy beach pavilion combining a transparent wine house and a restaurant.
The pavilion structure is mounted on a dam made of prefabricated concrete foundation elements, with a demountable steel structure and a facade of wooden posts supporting the roof. Flags on tall masts are installed on the roof, visible from the camera. Inside, there are 7 luxury beach suites and a restaurant with a professional kitchen.
History: A New Life for an Old Beach
Zandpaviljoen Pier 7 appeared after the municipality of Vlissingen decided to breathe new life into the old bathing pavilion on the beach. The operation of the facility was taken over by a team of five entrepreneurs called "Pier 7," among whom are Erik and Suzanna van Dijk. They transformed the abandoned area into a modern leisure space where you can eat, drink wine, or stay overnight right by the water.
Multifunctionality: Restaurant, Hotel, and Events
Zandpaviljoen operates as a multifunctional facility. It is simultaneously a restaurant that, according to Tripadvisor, is considered one of the best in Vlissingen with a rating of 4.4–4.5 out of 5, a bar, a hotel with beach suites, and a venue for events — parties, weddings, corporate events, and BeachBBQ. On the wooden terrace overlooking the Scheldt, guests can watch passing ships without leaving the establishment.
Strand Vlissingen Beach: Four Kilometers of Sand
