Every summer, a temporary pedestrian bridge also opens to the island, making Kirjurinluoto accessible from different sides of the Kokemäenjoki River.

Pori Jazz Festival and Cultural Life

Since 1966, Kirjurinluoto Island has been the main venue for the Pori Jazz Festival — one of the largest jazz festivals in Europe. Every year it attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators from around the world, transforming the quiet island into the epicenter of musical life.

The permanent stage "Lokki" ("Seagull") on the island was completed in 1974. Since then, it has become a symbol of the island and a venue for not only the jazz festival but also many other events — from concerts to theatrical performances.
