Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu in Kutchan — Online Webcam
Niseko Grand Hirafu Resort: The Heart of Hokkaido Skiing
In northern Japan, on the island of Hokkaido, in the town of Kutchan, lies one of Asia's most famous ski resorts — Niseko Grand Hirafu. It is the largest resort in the Niseko area, connected by ski runs and shuttle buses to three other resorts: Hanazono, Niseko Village, and Annupuri. The live webcam allows you to see the slopes of this resort in real time — from green summer landscapes to snow-covered winter runs.
The resort is located on Mount Niseko-Annupuri, which is part of the Nisekama volcanic mountain range. This place is famous not only for skiing but also for its unique climate, which produces the lightest and driest snow in the world — the legendary "Japow".
Geographical Location and Climate of Kutchan
The town of Kutchan is located in western Hokkaido, approximately 50 kilometers west of Sapporo and slightly north of Mount Yotei. The climate here is temperate monsoon with pronounced seasonality. The temperature amplitude is about 60°C — from +30°C in summer to -30°C in winter.
In winter, Kutchan is a true kingdom of snow and frost. A characteristic feature is frequent snowfall without piercing winds, making skiing comfortable even on cloudy days. In summer, the region transforms into a green oasis with cool air and picturesque mountain landscapes.
Summer Season: Green Slopes and Active Recreation
When the snow melts from the slopes, Niseko Grand Hirafu does not go dormant — the resort switches to summer operations. The gondola takes tourists 500 meters up the slope of Mount Annupuri to enjoy views of the surrounding greenery and alpine flora.
The most popular summer activity in Niseko is rafting on mountain rivers. Also available are E-Bike tours, mountain biking (MTB), hiking with gondola access, golf, and river descents. The live webcam shows how the resort's landscape changes in summer — the slopes are covered with thick green grass, and forested hills with dense vegetation are visible in the background.
Winter Season: A Ski Paradise from November to May
The ski season in Niseko lasts from November to May — one of the longest in the world. During this time, the resort welcomes skiers and snowboarders from across the globe. The snow cover here is unique — dry, light, and incredibly deep, creating ideal conditions for freeriding.
The resort offers runs for evening skiing with bright lighting. This is a rarity among Japanese resorts, and Niseko Grand Hirafu takes pride in its evening program. The live webcam allows you to see how the slopes are transformed under the floodlights after sunset.
Resort Infrastructure: Lifts and Runs
The resort operates official webcams broadcasting views of the slopes from Mountain Center and Mount Annupuri. The infrastructure of Niseko Grand Hirafu includes modern gondolas, chairlifts, and cable cars that provide access to runs of varying difficulty levels.
On the left side of the camera, you can see the lift station structure and service building — this is Mountain Center, the central hub of the resort where the main lifts depart. The pylons and cables of the cable car extend up the hill, providing connection between the upper and lower zones of the resort.
How to Get to Niseko Grand Hirafu
There are several ways to reach the resort. From Sapporo, there is a direct bus operated by Hokkaido Resort Liner, with a travel time of about 2.5 hours. From New Chitose Airport, the journey takes approximately 2 hours by bus or rental car.
For those traveling by rail, the nearest station is Kutchan Station on the Hakodate Main Line. From the station to the resort, you can get there by taxi or local bus in 10-15 minutes.
What You Can See on the Camera
The live webcam broadcasts a view of the Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu ski resort slope with lift infrastructure. On the slope, there are pylons and cables of the cable car extending up the hill. Depending on the season, the slope is covered either with green grass (in summer) or a thick layer of snow (in winter).
On the sides and in the background are forested hills with dense vegetation, part of the Nisekama volcanic range. On the left, you can see the lift station structure and the Mountain Center service building. In the background is a hilly landscape with trees and shrubs. The cloudy sky adds dynamism to the scenery — the weather in Hokkaido is changeable, and the live camera allows you to observe its changes.
This online camera is a great way to assess conditions at the resort before your trip or simply enjoy the beauty of Japanese mountains without leaving home.
