Lenin Square — the Heart of Nelidovo

Monument to V.I. Lenin on the Square

Lenin — a monumental work solemnly unveiled on November 3, 1957, on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution. The sculptor is Georgy Vasilyevich Neroda, People's Artist of the RSFSR, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Arts.

The monument is classified as a work of monumental art and is one of the symbols of Nelidovo. The city also features a two-figure composition "V.I. Lenin and A.M. Gorky," but it is located on October Square in the DOK microdistrict, not on Lenin Square. Thus, the monument on the main square is an independent work created by an outstanding sculptor of the Soviet era.

Reconstruction and Improvement of the Square

In late 2022, the reconstruction of Lenin Square was completed. The work included landscaping the territory, installing flower beds, small architectural forms, a fountain, and green plantings. In 2023, a new improvement project called "Konogonka Beam" was launched, covering 1.4 hectares — Lenin Square and part of Gorky Street.

On August 21, 2025, 60 concrete hemispheres were installed along the road on the central square — an improvement element combining aesthetics and safety. These architectural elements are visible on the broadcast and create a modern look for the historic space.

Lenin Square is the main venue for mass events in Nelidovo. The key event of the year is the Day of the Nelidovo Municipal District, traditionally held on the last Saturday of August. The holiday unites City Day, District Day, and Miner's Day — three interconnected dates reflecting the history and identity of the settlement.

The holiday program is extensive: concerts, master classes, quizzes, games, fair and trade venues, and a strongman show. The festive day begins at 10:00 AM at the bust of Sergei Vladimirovich Nelidov in the park of the same name, after which the event moves to Lenin Square. At the Miner's Palace of Culture, ceremonial events and concert programs are held on these days.
