Shymbulak Ski Resort in Almaty — Online Webcam
Shymbulak — the Pearl of the Zailiyskiy Alatau
Shymbulak Ski Resort is one of the most famous ski complexes in Central Asia, located 25 km south of Almaty. This resort operates year-round: in winter it attracts skiers and snowboarders, while in summer it transforms into a popular destination for hiking and outdoor activities in the mountains. If you want to see the resort in real time, the Shymbulak online webcam allows you to assess the weather conditions and situation on the slopes right now.
History of the Ski Base
Shymbulak began operating as a sports ski base in 1954. In those days, athletes had to climb the slopes on foot, and the journey took about three hours. Today the resort is equipped with modern cable cars and lifts, and during the 2020/2021 season it hosted stages of the Freestyle World Cup and the FIS World Championships in parallel moguls and aerials.
Geographic Location and Elevations
The resort is located on the territory of the Ile-Alatau National Park in the Zailiyskiy Alatau gorge. The base station sits at an altitude of 2260 meters above sea level, while the upper station at Talgar Pass is at 3200 meters. The vertical drop is 943 meters, providing a variety of runs for different skill levels. The nearest peaks are Shkolnik Peak (3713 m), Amangeldy Peak (3999 m), and Nursultan Peak (4330.9 m).
Guinness World Record
Shymbulak is officially listed among world record holders. The resort was entered into the Guinness Book of Records as the owner of the highest night ski run in the world. The certificate ceremony took place at an altitude of 3200 meters at the Talgar Pass station. It is the only mountain resort in Kazakhstan with such an achievement.
Eurasian Alliance of Mountain Resorts
In 2023, Shymbulak joined forces with Amirsoy (Uzbekistan) and Rosa Khutor (Russia) resorts to form the Eurasian Alliance of Mountain Resorts. This association allows for experience sharing, development of ski tourism, and attracting guests from different countries. Based on the results of the 2024/2025 season, Shymbulak was recognized as the best ski complex in the CIS countries.
What to Do at the Resort Besides Skiing
Shymbulak offers entertainment not only in winter. In summer, the resort becomes a base for outdoor activities: mountaineering, paragliding, horseback riding, and the Gorilla Zipline are all available. The cable car operates year-round, allowing visitors to ascend to observation decks and enjoy panoramic views of the Zailiyskiy Alatau. Even without skis, the lifts, viewing platforms, and cafes at the stations provide a rich panoramic experience.
Climate and Seasonality
The resort's climate is moderately continental and highland. In winter, temperatures drop to -10...-15°C, and snow cover reaches 1.5-2 meters. Summers are cool, with temperatures of +15...+20°C at the base station. Due to its location in the gorge, the weather here often changes, so the Shymbulak live webcam is a convenient way to check conditions before your trip.
What You Can See on the Camera
The webcam at Shymbulak Ski Resort broadcasts views of the slopes, cable car, and surrounding mountain landscapes. In the live feed, you can observe weather conditions on the slopes, the presence of snow cover in winter or green slopes in summer, as well as the operation of the lifts. The Shymbulak online camera helps assess trail traffic and choose the best time for skiing or hiking in the Almaty mountains.
