It was the first channel in Taiwan to launch a 24-hour continuous news format, making it a pioneer in rolling news on the island.

The TV channel is available through cable television in Taiwan and also streams live online, allowing viewers to watch TVBS News online from anywhere in the world. The broadcast format includes regular news bulletins, reports from various locations, interviews with experts and politicians, as well as analytical content.

History of TVBS News

TVBS News was founded on September 28, 1993 as a joint project of two major media structures. Initially, the channel was created as a joint venture between Hong Kong media group TVB (Television Broadcasts Limited) and Taiwan's ERA Group. The name TVBS originally stood for "TVB Super Channel," highlighting the connection with the Hong Kong partner.

In its early years, the channel actively developed the continuous news format, which was innovative for the Taiwanese media market. TVBS became the first channel in Taiwan to launch a 24-hour continuous news format, allowing viewers to receive up-to-date information at any time of day.

An important milestone in the channel's history was 2005, when the Hong Kong side fully sold its stake, making TVBS a 100% Taiwanese enterprise. This event marked the channel's complete independence from its Hong Kong owner and its focus exclusively on the local audience. Since then, TVBS News has operated as a fully Taiwanese news channel with no operational ties to Hong Kong.

Topics and broadcast format

TVBS News specializes in several key areas. The core of the broadcast consists of regular news bulletins that air at high frequency to ensure a continuous flow of up-to-date information. The channel pays special attention to local Taiwanese events, the island's political life, economic news, and social issues.

In addition to standard news summaries, the channel features analytical programs where experts discuss current events and their implications. Reports from various locations in Taiwan and abroad complement the daily picture, providing viewers with diverse content. Interviews with politicians, public figures, and experts help to better understand the context of current events.

The broadcast language is Mandarin Chinese, which corresponds to the main language of communication in Taiwan. For international audiences, this is an opportunity not only to follow regional news but also to practice listening comprehension of Mandarin.

Difference between TVBS News and TVB News

Many viewers confuse TVBS News with the Hong Kong channel TVB News, but these are two completely different media projects. The main difference lies in the target audience and ownership: TVBS is focused exclusively on the local Taiwanese audience and local news.

TVB News is a Hong Kong news channel owned by Television Broadcasts Limited, which focuses on events in Hong Kong and mainland China. Despite the historical connection between the channels (TVBS was originally created as a joint venture with TVB), today they are completely independent structures.

Language differences also matter: TVBS News broadcasts in Mandarin Chinese with a Taiwanese accent, while TVB News uses both Mandarin and Cantonese dialects, reflecting the linguistic situation in Hong Kong.

The geographic focus of news also differs: TVBS News pays more attention to Taiwanese events, while TVB News focuses on Hong Kong and Chinese issues. For viewers interested specifically in Taiwan, TVBS News is a more relevant source of information.

Stream quality and technical features

TVBS News broadcasts in high quality, ensuring clear images and good sound. The channel is available in HD format, which is especially important for news broadcasts where image quality affects information perception.

Internet streaming is stable and does not require high connection speeds. Adaptive streaming adjusts to the user's internet connection capabilities, ensuring continuous viewing even at moderate speeds.
