Sukhumi Railway Station — Online Webcam Traffic
Sukhumi Railway Station webcam online is an opportunity to observe the life of the main gateway to Abkhazia in real time. The capital of the republic welcomes guests not only by air and highway, but also by the rails of the Abkhazian Railway. The station square is always filled with passengers, and the station tracks are actively used for freight operations.
Architecture and history of the Sukhumi station
The Sukhumi station building is a striking example of monumental mid-20th century architecture. The station opened in December 1951 designed by architects Levan and Lola Mushkudiani. The building is designed in neoclassical style: massive columns, arched windows, and a central spire tower make it an architectural dominant of the city. Elements of Stalinist architecture give the structure a special flavor and monumentality. Unfortunately, during the Georgian-Abkhaz war, the station was destroyed and used as an ammunition depot, but it was subsequently restored.
Transport accessibility of the station district
Sukhumi railway station is located in the city center on Dzidzaria Street. Nearby is the bus station — at 81 Dzidzaria Street, by the railway station square. In fact, the bus station is a bus parking lot not far from the platforms. The "Vokzal" public transport stop serves buses, trolleybuses, and minibuses, providing convenient logistics for arriving passengers.
Train schedule and railway service
Sukhumi station is operational, its ESR code is 573909. The Abkhazian Railway connects the republic with Russia. Passenger service is represented by long-distance trains: train 480S Sukhumi — Saint Petersburg departs in the evening, as well as routes to Adler. Ticket prices for second-class carriages start from 408 rubles for short distances, while the minimum price for a second-class ticket to Saint Petersburg is 11,277 ₽. In addition to passenger transportation, freight operations play a leading role at the station: operations with gasoline and diesel fuel tank cars are carried out. The overhead catenary network on the tracks is often de-energized, and most of the network is de-electrified, so freight trains are often uncoupled several cars at a time.
Attractions near the station
The station district of Sukhumi is interesting not only for transit passengers. Within walking distance is the famous Sukhumi Monkey Nursery, founded back in 1927. Today it houses about 600 primate individuals. The nursery is located next to the botanical garden on the slope of Mount Trapezium. Also not far from the station you can see the ruins of Sukhumi Fortress (Sebastopolis), built by the Romans.
