Taoyuan Airport — online webcam with view of runways and flight board
Taoyuan International Airport — the main air gateway of Taiwan
Taoyuan International Airport (codes RCTP/TPE) is located approximately 40 kilometers west of Taipei city center and is the largest and busiest airport in Taiwan. It is a key transportation hub in East Asia, handling the bulk of the island's international passenger and cargo traffic. The airport is among the largest hubs in the region and serves dozens of airlines worldwide — from budget carriers to flagships of Asian and European routes.
The online webcam is positioned so that the frame captures two runways, taxiways, and elements of airfield infrastructure. In the foreground, you can see a hotel located in close proximity to the terminals, giving a sense of presence on the airport grounds. Additionally, the right side of the screen displays an information panel with up-to-date flight data — flight numbers, departure and arrival times, airlines, and destinations.
Airport infrastructure: terminals and development prospects
Taoyuan Airport has two operational passenger terminals. Terminal 1 opened in 1979 and remained the airport's sole passenger terminal for a long time. In 2000, Terminal 2 was commissioned, more than doubling the airport's capacity. The combined capacity of the two terminals is approximately 37 million passengers per year.
Construction of Terminal 3 is currently underway on a large scale and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027. Once operational, the airport's total capacity will reach approximately 82 million passengers per year. The new terminal will include 21 aircraft parking stands, a main hall, north and south concourses, as well as office buildings. The share of self-service check-in at Terminal 3 will be nearly 50%, in line with global trends in airport service digitization.
The airport development project is part of the broader Taoyuan Aerotropolis concept — creating an industrial and logistics zone around the airport that is expected to strengthen the region's economic significance and attract new investment.
Airport metro: connection to Taipei
An important element of the airport's transport infrastructure is the Taoyuan Airport MRT — a high-speed rail line connecting the airport with Taipei. The airport section of the metro includes 6.85 km of underground section with four stations: Airport Terminal 1, Airport Terminal 2, Airport Hotel, and the future Airport Terminal 3 station.
Two types of trains operate on the line — Express and Commuter. Express trains carry passengers from the airport to Taipei Main Station in approximately 35 minutes, making minimal stops. Commuter trains make more stops and serve suburban areas. The underground section was built using cut-and-cover and shield tunneling methods, which minimized the impact on the existing airport infrastructure.
In addition to the metro, the airport is connected to Taipei and other cities in Taiwan by a network of highways, providing convenient car access for passengers and freight transport.
Airlines and flight destinations
Taoyuan Airport serves a wide range of airlines. The information board visible on the webcam displays flights from carriers such as EVA Air (BR), China Airlines (CI), Turkish Airlines (TK), Tigerair Taiwan (IT), and others. Flight destinations cover all of Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania.
EVA Air and China Airlines are Taiwan's flagship carriers and use Taoyuan Airport as their main hub. The airport handles transit passenger flows between Southeast Asia and North America, as well as between Europe and Oceania. Cargo operations also play a significant role — the airport is one of the largest cargo hubs in the region.
Hotel near the airport: Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport
In the foreground of the webcam, you can see a hotel located in close proximity to the airport terminals. This is the Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport — a transit hotel catering to connecting flight passengers, business travelers, and airline crews. Its proximity to the terminals makes it a convenient option for short stays between flights.
The hotel is connected to the airport terminals by a covered walkway, allowing guests to reach departure areas without going outdoors. The hotel features meeting rooms, restaurants, and a fitness center. Such infrastructure is typical of major Asian hubs where transit passenger volumes reach significant levels.
The airport in figures: scale and significance
Taoyuan Airport is among the largest airports in Asia by passenger traffic. It serves tens of millions of passengers annually and handles hundreds of thousands of tons of cargo. The airport plays a strategic role in Taiwan's economy, connecting the island to global markets and supporting the tourism industry.
The construction of Terminal 3 and the development of the Aerotropolis concept aim to maintain and strengthen Taiwan's position as a key aviation hub in the long term. Infrastructure expansion will allow the airport to accommodate more flights, serve larger aircraft, and improve passenger service quality.
What you can see on the camera
The online webcam broadcasts a view of Taoyuan Airport with two runways. In the frame — taxiways with maneuvering aircraft, airfield navigation lights, an EVA Air cargo plane on the taxiway with lights on. In the foreground — the transit hotel building, located in close proximity to the terminals. The right side of the screen displays an information panel with up-to-date departure and arrival data: flight numbers, times, airlines, and destinations. At the bottom — a text caption in Chinese and English with broadcast information. The camera provides the opportunity to observe the operations of one of the largest airports in East Asia in real time.
