West Beach Łeba — Live Webcam on the Baltic Coast
Łeba — the Pearl of the Slovincian Coast
In northern Poland, where the Łeba River flows into the Baltic Sea, lies a small seaside town with a rich history. Łeba is a seaside town in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in northern Poland, located at the mouth of the Łeba River on the Slovincian Coast of the Baltic Sea, near Lake Łebsko. This place attracts tourists not only with its wide sandy beaches but also with the unique nature that surrounds the town on all sides.
Historically, Łeba was a fishing village that began transforming into a popular resort in the 19th century. Today, visitors come here for a peaceful holiday on the Baltic shore, walks along the dunes, and exploring the nature of Słowiński National Park. West Beach in Łeba is one of those places where you can observe the pristine beauty of the coastline without crowds of tourists.
Słowiński National Park and Its Moving Dunes
Łeba is located within a unique nature reserve. Słowiński National Park was established in 1967 and is located in the central part of the Polish coast between the towns of Łeba and Rowy. It is one of 23 national parks in Poland, combining natural beauty including moving dunes up to 30 meters high.
The moving sand dunes of Słowiński Park are considered a unique natural phenomenon in Europe. The wind moves masses of sand, creating a landscape reminiscent of a desert — only instead of camels, you'll find tourists with cameras. Some of these dunes are also visible from West Beach in Łeba, where the sand hills are overgrown with sea grass that stabilizes their surface.
Beach Infrastructure in Łeba
The beach area of Łeba is well organized for visitors. The central beach of Łeba, 1.5 km long, has been awarded the Blue Flag, confirming its cleanliness and safety. Lifeguards patrol it throughout the summer, watching over bathers.
For easy navigation, Łeba's beach is divided into 3 sections, each marked with a Latin letter (Plaza A, B, C). West Beach offers a more secluded and peaceful experience compared to the central section — there are fewer people here, and nature retains its natural appearance.
Secrets of the Rocket Range
Łeba's history also holds dark chapters. From 1940, a Nazi rocket range was located near Łeba, within Słowiński National Park, where German scientists tested anti-aircraft missiles and a cannon designed to fire on London. In November 1944, shortly after the first successful tests, most of the batteries at the range were converted to railway launch platforms.
Today, a small museum has been established at the site of the former "Pletka" rocket range, where you can see remnants of rockets. And in close proximity to Łeba is a large former test range for long-range missile weapons, now operated by the company Rheinmetall. These historical sites add a special character to the town's surroundings.
Nature of the Coast and Its Inhabitants
West Beach in Łeba is surrounded not only by dunes but also by forests that come right up to the water's edge. The combination of sandy shore, green dunes with sea grass, and the dark forest mass creates a picturesque contrast. Along the dunes stretches a wooden fence of vertical stakes — it separates the fragile dune ecosystem from the beach area and protects it from destruction.
Słowiński National Park is an important site for birdwatching during migrations. On the coast and in nearby lakes, you can spot swans, herons, cormorants, and many other bird species. Lake Łebsko, located near the town, is one of the largest lakes on the Slovincian Coast and a popular spot for fishing and birdwatching.
Climate and Weather at West Beach
The Baltic coast of Poland is characterized by a moderate maritime climate. Summers here are cool compared to southern resorts — the water temperature in the Baltic rarely exceeds 20°C, but this is what makes for comfortable weather on hot days. In winter, the coast is swept by winds, and storms can be quite impressive.
West Beach in Łeba is especially beautiful in calm weather, when the sea surface becomes mirror-like. But even in windy weather, there is its own charm — waves roll onto the shore, creating an endless rhythm of surf. It is this landscape that the online camera installed on the beach broadcasts.
What You Can See on the Camera
The webcam at West Beach in Łeba broadcasts a panorama of the sandy Baltic Sea coastline in real time. In the foreground is a wide strip of sandy beach, behind which rise dunes overgrown with sea grass. Along the dunes stretches a wooden fence of vertical stakes, separating the dunes from the beach area. To the right, a forest is visible on the dunes, approaching the shore.
On the sand to the right, there is an orange information sign on a post — a landmark for beachgoers. The sea with active waves, the surf line where water meets land is visible. In the distance on the beach, you can make out silhouettes of people walking along the water's edge. A cloudy sky completes the picture of a typical Baltic day — changing, dynamic, alive.
