Intersection of Mira and Obrucheva Streets in Bratsk — Online Webcam
Obrucheva and Deputatskaya Intersection — the Heart of the Central District
Bratsk is a city with a harsh character and a complex destiny, which grew up in the taiga thanks to hydro-constructors and timber industry workers. The Central District, where Obrucheva Street and Deputatskaya Street intersect, is the administrative and cultural core of the city. This is where the main urban infrastructure is concentrated: from major retail outlets to cultural heritage sites. The online camera installed at this intersection allows real-time observation of life in Bratsk — traffic movement, pedestrians, changing weather and lighting throughout the day.
Deputatskaya Street is the main street of Bratsk's Central District. Its development is predominantly represented by panel buildings from the 1960s–1970s — five-story and ten-story buildings that shaped the city's appearance during its period of rapid growth. The intersection with Obrucheva Street is one of the key transport junctions where public transport routes and private vehicles converge.
The "Globe of Peace" Stele and the Roundabout
One of the most recognizable landmarks at the intersection is the "Globe of Peace" stele. This is a roundabout at the intersection of Mira and Obrucheva streets featuring a globe encircled by a blue ribbon with the word "Peace" in several languages. The stele was installed in the 1970s and became a symbol of a city built by people from dozens of Soviet republics.
The metal globe "Peace to the World" stood at the intersection for more than forty years, after which it was replaced with a new globe with a diameter of 5 meters. In the 2000s, the stele was relocated and reconstructed, but retained its symbolic significance. For Bratsk residents, this place is a reference point, a landmark, and at the same time a reminder of the scale of construction that took place here during the Soviet era.
The roundabout organizes traffic in several directions: to the residential blocks of the Central District, to the Angara River embankment, to the industrial zone, and back. During rush hours, a noticeable number of vehicles accumulate here — this is clearly visible on the webcam in real time.
Obrucheva Street: From the First Nine-Story Buildings to the Memorial
Obrucheva Street is named after the outstanding Soviet geologist and geographer, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Hero of Socialist Labor Vladimir Afanasyevich Obruchev (1863–1956) — explorer of Siberia and author of the famous novel "Sannikov Land." The name of the scientist who devoted his life to studying the Siberian depths is perfectly suited to a city that grew up in the Siberian taiga.
Obrucheva Street is mentioned in documents no later than 1969 — it was then that Bratsk's first nine-story residential building (Building No. 11) was erected here. The single-entrance brick building was called a "spot building" by the construction workers — it became a symbol of the transition from five-story development to more ambitious projects. A memorial plaque to V.A. Obruchev is installed on Building No. 37 on Obrucheva Street in the 14th microdistrict of the Central District.
Bratsk emerged in connection with the construction of the Bratsk Hydroelectric Power Station, an aluminum plant, and a timber industry complex. Initially, the streets had no names — from 1963 onward, they began to receive names, and Obrucheva Street was part of the first wave of urban space naming.
Hotel "Bratsk" and 1960s–1970s Architecture
In the center of the webcam frame, a tall white building dominates — the Hotel "Bratsk" (formerly "Angara"), located at 32 Deputatskaya Street. Over the summer of 1968, hundreds of cubic meters of precast concrete and 110 tons of reinforcement framework were assembled on it. This building is one of the architectural dominants of the intersection, visible from afar and serving as a reliable landmark for drivers and pedestrians.
Next to the hotel is a restaurant building — a typical example of Soviet commercial architecture, designed to serve guests and residents of the city. In the background are multi-story residential buildings forming a continuous front of development on both sides of the street. Trees and green areas soften the strictness of panel structures, creating a familiar Siberian urban landscape.
Memorial of Glory — A Place of Remembrance on Obrucheva Street
On Obrucheva Street stands the Memorial of Glory — a monument with special status. It was built in 1975 for the 30th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The memorial is included in the unified state register of cultural heritage sites, which means it is protected from demolition and must be preserved.
For Bratsk — a city built in the post-war decades — the Memorial of Glory holds special significance. Many of the first residents were war veterans, and the monument became a place where generations pass on the memory of the feat. On the days of May 9 and February 23 celebrations, solemn events take place here, which can also be partially observed on the webcam if it covers the adjacent territory.
Infrastructure and Transport Accessibility
The intersection of Obrucheva and Deputatskaya is an important transport hub of Bratsk. Public transport routes pass through here, connecting the Central District with other parts of the city: the Energetik district, Osinovka, and the industrial zone. The intersection is equipped with pedestrian crossings with traffic lights, road signs, and markings ensuring traffic safety.
Parked vehicles in the parking lot along the street indicate high business activity in this area. Advertising billboards and street lighting complement the urban landscape. The real-time webcam allows you to assess road congestion, weather conditions, and the general situation at the intersection — information useful both for local residents and guests of Bratsk planning a trip to the Central District.
The Central District, where the intersection is located, is also a concentration of administrative buildings, shopping centers, healthcare and educational facilities. Its convenient location and developed infrastructure make it one of the busiest places in the city at any time of day.
