History of the Legendary Club
The roots of this location go back to the mid-20th century. On June 23, 1964, Trentino notary Morgan founded Circolo Vela Torbole. Already in May 1965, the club received permission from the local government of Nago-Torbole to develop the site near the Adige-Garda tunnel, where it still stands today, partly on reclaimed land. Later, in 1978 (according to other sources — in 1979), Circolo Surf Torbole was established, becoming one of the most important sports organizations in the world of windsurfing.
Winds That Create Perfect Conditions
Torbole's main treasure is its winds. Two main currents blow here: Pelora — a nighttime and morning northern wind, and Ora del Garda — a daytime southern wind. This alternation creates ideal thermal conditions for windsurfing, allowing you to hit the water at any time of day. The spot is located in a zone with two different winds, making it one of the best in the world for sailing sports. This is why the town is often called the "windsurfing capital of Garda."
Sports Achievements and Olympic Champions
The club doesn't just teach riding — it trains champions. Olympic champion Alessandra Sensini is a member of Circolo Surf Torbole. Under the leadership of president Gianfranco Tonelli, the club organized the International Meeting for ISEF, which led to the selection of RSX as the Olympic board. Over its history, the club has counted 250 associates and has hosted three world championships, as well as numerous national and international competitions. In 2023, a PWA World Cup slalom stage was successfully held in Torbole.
