History of the Holden Beach dunes and shoreline
The land where the webcam is located has been part of Benjamin Holden's holdings since 1756. He acquired four plots from England, including the island between Lockwood's Folly Inlet and Bacon's Inlet. During the Civil War years (1861–1865), the wrecks of several ships were recorded here, including the Confederate blockade runners CSS Elizabeth and CSS Bendigo, and the Union vessel USS Iron Age. The ships were lost in coastal waters during active military operations.
