Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club — Watch Online for Free
Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club is one of the most scenic sports venues in the western United States. Located in the town of Jackson, Wyoming, this club combines a premium golf course, tennis courts, and breathtaking views of the rugged Teton Range peaks. The live webcam allows you to observe what's happening on the club grounds in real time — from the manicured greens to the snow-capped mountain peaks on the horizon.
History of Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club
The club's history dates back to the late 1950s, when Paul McCollister, president of Jackson Hole Ski Corporation, purchased a 390-acre ranch at the base of Shadow Mountain. It was here in 1958 that the first 9-hole golf course was opened. By 1963–1964, the course had been expanded to 18 holes, making it a full-fledged venue for tournaments and recreation.
In 1967, the club was acquired by Laurance Rockefeller — a renowned philanthropist and pioneer of the resort business. A year later, in 1971, he invited legendary golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. to completely redesign the course. It was thanks to his work that the course acquired its modern appearance, organically integrated into the mountain landscape.
Geography and Nature
The golf club is situated in the Jackson Hole valley at an elevation of approximately 6,200 feet (1,890 meters) above sea level. This makes it one of the highest-elevation golf courses in the United States, giving it a distinct alpine character.
The main landscape feature is the Teton Range, which dominates the western horizon. Unlike most mountain systems, the Tetons have no foothills: their peaks rise sharply from the valley floor to heights of up to 7,000 feet (2,100 meters) relative to the surrounding terrain. The highest point of the range is Grand Teton Peak, reaching 13,700 feet (4,178 m).
Deciduous trees — aspens and willows — grow along the perimeter of the course, as well as coniferous species: spruces and pines. The natural vegetation includes shrubs and grassy meadows characteristic of Wyoming's high-mountain ecosystems.
Climate and Weather Conditions
The climate in the Jackson Hole valley is distinctly alpine. Winters are cold and snowy, with a persistent snow cover lasting from November through March–April. Summers are short but warm and sunny — this is when the golf club operates.
Due to the high elevation, the air is thinner than at sea level, which affects ball flight distance — roughly 10% farther than at lower elevations. Temperature swings between day and night can reach 20–25 degrees, typical of a continental mountain climate.
Course Design and Architecture
The course was designed to minimize disruption to the natural landscape. Architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. preserved the natural terrain undulations, using them to create strategically challenging holes. The course is considered semi-private and welcomes club guests.
In 2007, a new clubhouse was built, spanning 12,000 square feet at a cost of $7.5 million. The building houses a golf and tennis pro shop, locker rooms, and lounge areas for club members and their guests.
Fauna and Wildlife of the Region
The Jackson Hole valley is renowned for its rich wildlife. Nearby lies Grand Teton National Park, which welcomes over 2.5 million visitors annually.
Large mammals can be spotted around the course: bison, elk, mule deer, and coyotes. Brown bears and grizzlies inhabit the forests surrounding the club, as well as wolves, which were reintroduced to the region in the 1990s. Bald eagles soar above the valley — a symbol of American wilderness.
Smaller inhabitants are also found on the club grounds: prairie dogs, hares, and numerous bird species. The club administration carefully monitors the preservation of the natural habitat, minimizing impact on the ecosystem.
Infrastructure and Club Facilities
Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club is not just a golf course but a full-scale sports complex. The grounds feature tennis courts, a swimming pool, a fitness center, and restaurants. The club also offers golf and tennis lessons for players of all skill levels.
The parking lot near the clubhouse accommodates several dozen cars as well as golf carts — small electric vehicles that players use to move between holes. The club's infrastructure is designed with seasonality in mind: in winter, part of the grounds is used for other recreational activities.
What You Can See on the Camera
The live webcam broadcasts a view of the central part of the golf course and the tennis club. In the foreground is the parking lot with golf carts and several passenger cars. In the center of the frame are the green fairways with flags on the holes, which can be used to gauge wind direction and strength.
Along the perimeter of the course, trees are visible — aspens and conifers that create a natural boundary between the manicured lawns and the wild landscape. In the background rise the rugged peaks of the Teton Range — the main visual dominant of the landscape. At the top of the image, text information is displayed: the club name, copyright, and timestamp.
The real-time webcam allows you to observe weather conditions on the course, player activity, and changes in lighting throughout the day — from bright sunny hours to soft twilight in the shadow of the mountains.
